Freecycle rules!!
Me and my boyfriend moved into a new and unfurnished house at the end of last year and after forking out for beds, wardrobes etc, we couldn't really afford to splash out on non-necessities so we logged onto Freecycle.
We've been lucky enough to get:
- a big living room rug
- a TV stand
- a huge coffee table
- a groovy printed toilet seat (which turned out to be from my b/f's boss!)
- an Ikea chair
- a microwave
...and we found a bookcase left with some mattresses in an underground car park which we're now using as a computer/laptop/printer stand.
It all adds up and has saved us hundreds; the chair alone was £60. It may not be new but like someone else said - it was new to us! They do the job just fine, and when we have enough money to replace anything then we'll put the old stuff back on Freecycle to try help someone else. (And to save lugging it to the tip!!)
The more publicity Freecycle gets, the more people will join and then there'll be even more stuff being given away. One person's junk is another person's treasure!!0 -

Hello
I freecycle is great, But sometimes there seems to be a lot of wanted for such high value items,
I have gave away quite a few items and gain a few items 2 best bits i have had of freecycle a guy was giving brass ornaments i asked nicely and he rang me we arrange to collect i nearly keeled over when i arrived i thought of a small box but it was 16 crisp boxes full and 4 ships lanterns 1 coal bin 3 oil lamps and the other was a brand new dishwasher his wife didn't approve of the make indesit she wanted a Bosch so i picked up complete with 5 year john lewis guarantee,
My friend does outside bars and someone was offering a mock bar we collected it was used for a Richard Branson party so we collected complete with his signature and photo by the bar and its a great talking point when he uses it.
The only thing that gets me is people who collect and then profit by selling the item.
Cheers

I think Freecycle is a great way to dispose of furniture and children's toys and clothes, and am amazed at how quick my stuff always gets snapped up
.
What gets me is the ones who take the mickey; the other day somebody asked for a car (!) and quite regularly I see posts of people asking for a laptop. The one to top it all was a post asking for a Nintendo DS - yeah right, I was about to take mine to the tip  , NOT!!
But overall I think Freecycle is a great idea and would recommend it to anyone.

I think the ridiculous requests just get ignored anyway, and I know when I have offered things, I ignore anyone who just emails with "i'll have it" or even "yes please" as as far as I'm concerned if you actually want/need something you'll take the time to write at least a sentence. I've given away a couple of things on there, and I've had a couple of things too, I think it's a wonderful resource, and while I recommend it to as many people as possible I always stress that it's about the giving as much as the getting...I have heard too many people use it when they need something, and then taken something that could have been freecycled down the tipLight Bulb Moment 05/10/2007,Starting debt £15900:eek:,Snowball estimate 07/2010, aiming for 12/2009, with £7000 savings:rotfl:0

It saddens me to see that what appears to be board politics is ruining yet another board started to do good.Freecycle is a great cause when used properly as with anything.
I was happy with this boards no abuse/rudeness policy. It isn't necessary to jump all over somebody when they post and some of you owe andrea an apoligy although somehow i doubt she'll get it.
I want to wish her luck in her request to find people to help in highlighting the work of freecycle :-)

Ruddy heck - new dishwasher with 5yr JL guarantee! That's got to be the result of the year - well done you.
BTW - did a double taken on the Branson "mock bar" when I first read it. I imagined something up to put out phrases whenever he came near to it such as "Hey beardy, you may have all the money in the world but isn't there something sad about an ageing man doing stunts to plug his brand?" :rotfl:
Now that sort of "mock bar" I would pay real money for!0 -
I hope the nuts were complimentary if the bar was mocking!! hee hee
I've given lots of stuff away on freecyle but haven't got anything yet. I keep trying to get rid of clutter but keep on buying more.Just looking to save a few pennies here and there0
