It does take time to Mod the posts....but I don't mind doing it.
I just like that we can reuse what others no longer need.

If picked, I'd be keen to point out the "etiquette" of freecycling, and to emphasise its community angle.
Greater awareness could get more people on board (giving as well as taking), saving even more from the landfill. It could also educate current freecyclers on how to use the sites without taking advantage.
Yes, some areas may need additional moderating resource, but I can't see how promoting the site (in the right way) could be a negative thing. Is it an exclusive group for those "in the know", or is it a valuable public resource?Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -

not moaning just stating the fact's
Nice post.
From time to time you do see unfair comments about Freecycle and their Mods on the Net - daft claims that they save all the best for themselves etc. My experience is that it's patently nonsense - that sort of behaviour would get found out in an instant.
I think those "stories" circulate out of envy maybe - a lot of people try to get the good Freecycle stuff and it's already gone.
Freecycle Mods do a great and thankless job, and you are so right about balance. It would be a shame if it all became totally unmanageable.
I haven't had a lot out of Freecycle, and have given some stuff away, but the best "results" must have been over £60 worth of brand new print cartridges, some nice original paintings and a lovely antique mirror.0 -

Whilst I understand that it might be difficult for the moderators they surely need to increase their moderation team to meet with the demand.
i do agree that awareness need's to be increased but becoming a moderator is not easy and we have strict rules in place that most people read them and then turn down becoming a moderator on the basis that they don't feel they would be any good and some that have become moderator's we have ended up banning from the group because they where just looking to make an easy income out of it . i enjoy moderating our group by myself and the people who use our group are happy with way it is run adding more moderators just confuses everything and makes existing mod's job's a lot hardersave money, spend someone else's0 -

Or found some real bargains by using the amazing free auction website???

I jest of course, but really:
Freecycle isn't a website, it's a movement.
It's also not an auction. How can something be an auction if it's free? I bid £0. Any advances on £0?
Unless you're talking about amazingfreeauctions.co.uk - which i doubt since the subject mentions freecycle and not it, and the site in question has a grand total of 0 items.
It's not even particularly about "getting free stuff". It's about giving away stuff that would either be sat collecting dust or you'd chuck. I've used it a fair bit, and there are some wonderful people but there are also problems with people taking stuff to ebay etc.
I know I'm being harsh here, but freecycle's fantastic, and I want it to stay that way. I hope it gets all the publicity it can, because the more people it benefits (by way of getting something you need, or getting shot of something you don't need) the better, but the way the OP talked about it, it's as if it's just a free-for-all to get yourself stuff, gratis.

Nice post.
I'd just add to your comments and say that all those people who never say "please" and "thank you" on Freecycle, plus the eBay traders too, who try to grab everything too, are also a movement.
...a bowel movement.
Well done to the Freecycle Mods who try to keep it clean, legit, and appreciative.0 -
