I'm trying really hard to adopt an "eat it, burn it, drink it" strategy....where everything we spend money on has to be important enough to allow us to live whether it quenches thirst, heats the house or stops us going hungry....anything excessive is just asking for trouble...as a society it's like we got used to making capital investment decisions and treating them as essentials of every day living....it's like the line got blurred between DIY and survival...somehow home improvement became crucial....now we're paying the price and wondering how we're going to pay for the basics...
For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 2007

    Hi Jim,

I've only just found this thread. I wanted to say that i am sorry you had the breakdown but glad you are feeling better. You will get through it.

I suffer with depression and have been taking antidepressants for 2 years. They just make it easier to think.

You will get through it, and you'll find that some people are nice and not prejudiced. I was very worried about this, but the more i could make myself be open and tell people about it and how it affects me, the more understanding they were. I know this is hard, and i didn't do it the first time i had a bout, but it gets easier the more you do it.

Keep in there, you'll get there.

    Hugs,

    Ali x

Wow, nearly Christmas! I am so frustrated how long it is taking to get well again, but amazingly I still have my job! My employers have treated me really well. I'm hoping to be working properly again by next Summer!
Sad to report that little has changed. At least I get free counselling now so there is someone different to winge and moan to:rotfl: . I am more in debt now than ever before because nothing really changed in spite of all the advice I got on here. Thanks to my medication, it doesnt trouble me as much as it did though. I guess we will have to lose it all before the message gets through but for now, as long as I can keep on working and the employers keep on being kind with me, I can keep on servicing the debt.
I was really inspired by the long thread on amazing things you could sell on E-Bay. If I can overcome my inertia and procrastination it could be fun to see how much of the stuff in the house I could sell off - they probably wouldnt even notice so I'm going to give it a go. The odd pound here or there isnt going to solve my problems but if I could only halt the monthly increase I might be able to start reducing the total. Its kind of tough when theres only one of you interested in tackling our debt, but I intend to make it my hobby. Hopefully it will be fun.
While I've been off sick I put a lot of effort into daily clicks, survey sites and anything else I could find on these pages that might bring in anything. I think I did very well overall though it takes a lot of time and effort. The hourly rate must be abysmal but it all helps.
I just wanted to say that I get a lot of encouragement out of visiting this board, seeing the state people are in and following their progress, tips, ideas and postings. It helps when you can see you are not the only person in the world who lives with this. Sometimes it can seem a bit intimidating. I've always been happy with frugality so some of the suggestions that regularly appear here would be second nature to me, if I was single. As part of a family I find it much harder. Even so, I'd encourage people who come here in difficulty not to give up. There are some inspiring stories here and always it seems, someone with bigger problems than you have. Now that I'm feeling better its nose back to the grindstone and even without my spouses help and cooperation I'm taking up this new hobby of frugality by stealth! Wish me luck, it looks like a very big mountain and may take a while to climb it.
