Shop.com=waste of space &spot the spam merchant? Is it shop.com, tribal uk, or Quidco?

Options
At some date in 2007 which now seems weeks ago now, mainly because it is, I ordered a freezer via a Quidco link to Shop.com. This turned out to be some kind of deal with Tribal UK as supplier. I have heard, received and seen nothing since my order apart from a "How did we do?" type survey email from Shop.com a week or so ago.

Then today I received spam on the email address I gave shop.com. It can only be as a result of my freezer order because I have used the particular address for absolutely nothing else. For those of you who at this point are feeling the need to blurt that I can't prove it, I bloody well can.

So what the hell is going on with these sh|tty outfits?

When you say you've heard nothing apart from receiving the spam today, does that mean that the transaction never tracked? Did you raise an earnings enquiry if so? (We can't follow up with the merchant on missing transactions if no enquiry's raised.)

Quidco do not spam. Our anti-spam policy makes that very clear. Unfortunately, we have no control over what an external merchant may do with details you provide them once you are on their site, however (which is true of every external link on every website on the internet.)

You can get spam even without ever using an email address - the spammers use random generators for these things.

Does that mean shop.com@xyz.co.uk is a likely candidate for random generation, arfster?

Yes it was tracked in Quidco, thanks quidco, but to be honest I was more interested in the freezer than the cashback.

What a bloomin' shower of a way to order it...d'oh

First and last time I use Quidco, Shop.com and Tribal UK.

    neither do I

so you clicked via their link...all the details you supply afterwards go solely to the merchants you buy from , not quidco

You lot just don't get it do you? I think like most people in business today who barely notice the multiple nefarious channels used by goodness knows who to do business and then deny liability for performance, you could do with brushing-up on the law of agency for a start.

It was a Quidco link to Shop.com. Shop.com have proved to be worse than useless. Therefore the Quidco link was worse than useless too.

I ordered a freezer weeks ago via the link because it was supposed to give me 7% cashback via Quidco. I joined Quidco to make this transaction, based on the hype for Quidco on MSE. Quidco have supposedly tracked the 'transaction.' Does that mean I'll eventually get my 7% of £119 without actually buying anything?? If so I will recommend Quidco for a laugh.

But actually I am not laughing. I have no freezer and no sign of one (apart from in the Quidco tracking). All I have received is a marketing survey for, or from, shop.com ...

Plus of course I now have continual spam on my specially created shop.com@xyz.co.uk email address, and if Quidco use this unique new email address (used solely for the transaction via their link) in their tracking processs, perhaps it's them.

Or possibly, but only remotely so I would guess, Tribal-UK have been passed my email address and altough they have failed to acknowledge the have received any order for a freezer, they have caused the spam?

The spam comes from something called Clash Club. Anyone have any idea how they got my email address?

after that all your details are given to the shop concerned, and your contract is with them , not quidco

so as you say it's down to shop.com...not quidco

I take it Browntoa that with your last post you are trying to tell me and any other interested MSE'ers that spammers masquerading as parties to non existent cashback deals are perfectly acceptable citizens?

Or perhaps on the other hand you are trying to tell me that the freezer I ordered after clicking on the Quidco link is now on its way and the spam will stop  ... Hmm. No, maybe not. I think I was right first time, wasn't I?

    peterbaker,

You just don't understand how Quidco works. If you saw an offer advertised on the MSE forums, would you just assume it would be ok, or would you research it further? I imagine you would do the latter. You should do the same with Quidco.

If you actually read what Browntoa wrote, they were not saying any of the things that you have insinuated.
