Money Saving gone TOO far?

I'm pretty open minded about most aspects of OS living - quite happy to buy my clothes from CS, grow my own fruit and veg, cook from scratch with home grown, market, "Basic" and unbranded produce, womble, forage wild food or (with permission) liberate stuff from out of skips.
Sharing bath water and using up leftovers - no problem
Upcycling, make-do-and-mend, repurposing, patching, repairing, repurposing and recycling are on the daily agenda
Using every available strategy to squeeze the pennies until the Queens eyes water to stre-t-c-h-h-h-h our income as far as possible!
The only thing that would be a step too far (for me) is involvement in dodgy dealings to get a "bargain" - knocked off / shoplifted / fallen-off-the-back-of-a-lorry stuff. However cheaply things are being sold for - in my book, its never worth sacrificing your integrity to save a few quid.... if there is no OS alternative...I'd rather go without
Not being sanctimonious - its just my personal perspective:heartpuls The best things in life aren't things :heartpuls

When I was young we only had a tin bath so we had to share bath water but then again we were only kids. Then I shared bath time with myrchildren when they were toddlers it was more of a fun time and quality time. But I COULD not take a bath after any adult. Sorry a step too far.0

Starting at the tap end, I eventually grew long enough to give Big Sis a decent splashing kick.

I find these to be a step too far for me:
Using up leftovers: saving food from anyone's plate (including mine) to make a next day meal. I hate food wastage but if I'm going to save leftover food, it has to come from it's serving dish where no one's used cutlery has touched it! I was also brought up to finish what is put on your plate
Washing out those ziplock baggies and hanging them to dry before re-using them. I'll just them use them again without washing it out about 2-3 times for like to like foods as long as it's not greasy, wet or raw for eg. breadsticks or cornflakes, before chucking them.
Ok, this is going to sound strange but used clothes, handbags and shoes from a charity or those secondhand shops. However I have no problems with accepting such items from relatives and friends - I think it's because I trust them and know where these things have come from IYSWIM. I'm quite happy buying secondhand books, CDs and things such as vases etc. from charity shops though.

I agree with OP. I would NOT share the same bath water.
As kids, okay.. two little ones in together that's different.
But I would NOT jump in to the bath if my OH has been in there for a wash first.
nah
Yuck.
I do recycle leftover food. I'll even make broth from from chicken bones once we've eaten the meat off of them.
A bridge too far for me..??..
catching shower water and hauling it downstairs in buckets to flush the toilet or water the plants.. that is just too much faff for me! I'd kill myself on the stairs!
Home made sanitary pads are up there on the top of the list as well.
as are family cloths instead of toilet paper...

I share a bath with DH; I need assistance to bathe in any case, so he hops in with me. Since I got a bath lift, he has to squash up a bit, but we manage.:D After all, we share a bed, so I don't see a problem with sharing the bath.:o
If we had any leftovers, I'd happily turn them into new meals. Mr LW was a Labrador in a previous life I reckon; leftovers are unheard of here.:D
On the rare occasions I have "new" clothes they are usually from the charity shop.:o
A money-save too far for me would be washable alternatives to loo paper - there's only the two of us here, and the idea of storing them til there's enough to make up a washing load is just too, too icky; and there's no way I'd wash that sort of thing with the "normal" wash._pale_If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0
