I have a work colleague we call roadkill ron - guess why! lol he once served up a large buffet plate of various roadkill ncluding badger and squirrell, my other work colleage and his wife saw a duck get hit by a car they went and got it and ate it.

My mum and dad used to share bath water - I suppose it depends how dirty you are if you bathe everyday it wouldn't be that bad but I wouldn't do it myself.

I won't buy value tea, coffee, chocolate and sugar as I always buy Fairtrade I like to be responsible and I don't buy nestle for that reason.

Sainsbury's value tea bags are fair trade. They're quite nice really.

I cant eat(or allow my family to eat)anything after its Use By date,I know a lot of people on here do and are fine, but after doing a REHIS course and reading info from Food standards agency, etc I cant bring myself to eat it..very rarely anything gets to that stage now im more OS,tho,I check fridge dates etc,and anything that does get missed and is passed its use by,is cooked and fed to the dog(who has the stomach for it;))
im fine eating "out of date", Best Before, display until,etc..but draw the line at Use by.

I'm a bit worried about margarine (spreads) because of the use of palm oil and deforestation affecting orang utans. So many processed foods have it in it's scary.

    Good for you!!
But just be aware that it not just in food... it's everywhere! I have a collegue draft a report on sustainable palm oil and it is really shocking what it is put in... washing powder was just one of the things that sticks out in my mind.

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

I read somewhere (may not have been this site!) that...

"if you live close to a main road, go out early and see if you can find any recent roadkill. A good rabbit or, if you're lucky (!?!?!) deer can feed the family for a few days...."

Uh... d'you know I'll work a bit of overtime and BUY my meat thanks all the same!!!

I saw a programme about that in the USA - they cleared the roadkill off the road when they went out and then collected the fresh ones on the way home so they knew it was ok!!!

Like others we wear our clothes until theyre dirty. When did it become necessary for office workers to put clean clothes on every day? (about 1984 methinks...) In order not to be labelled as "dirty" I will wear one jumper one day, then hang it up for a few days, then wear again, then hang it up for a few days etc etc...

Finally finally-do we really need a bath or shower every day?

Yep I do this. I get changed as soon as I get home from work and hang my clothes back up. Trousers I'll wear the next day. Tops, as long as they are clean, (meaning i haven't dribbled food on them) I'll hang up and wear a few days laters.

My evening/weekend clothes usually go all week. I'll put clean jeans on if I'm going out or something, but usually its clean jeans on a saturday morning and i'll wear the same outfit sat/sun/weekday evenings and if I've had a fairly peaceful week, maybe even the next weekend. I am truly disgusting :(

I think the advent of all this "clothes must be washed every day theory" started when washing machines became a regular feature of domestic life, along with the arrival of central heating.
When I was a child, there were no washing machines or central heating. The only heating in the house was the coal fire (in one room only) and there was rarely hot water on tap so getting clothes dried was a continual problem. Most women had to wash by hand, use a mangle if they were lucky enough to have one, and thick clothes could take up to a week to dry, depending on whether they could be dried outdoors in good weather, or take their turn on a clothes horse in front of the fire. So washing had to be kept to an absolute minimum. I'm afraid I still practise many of my mother's washing habits, and if clothes are not dirtied or become sweaty after one wearing, they're hung up, aired and saved for another day.

I suspect it was the companies that make washing machine powder that conned us into thinking we needed to wash more often and use twice as much washing powder as is really needed.

Bit like shampoo and toothpaste...use about a quarter of what they suggest you should use and bingo! It works :o
