  • This may not be any help at all but, if you can't find a good recipe, i brought the Sharwood Naan bread mix from ASDA at the weekend, 2 for £1.00. each pack makes 4 to 5 Naans depending on there size and they are really simple to make.

    450g s/r flour
    1/2 tsp salt
    1/2 tsp baking powder
    2 tbsp veg oil
    4 tbsp plain yoghurt
    2 eggs - beaten
    150ml water (approx)

Mix dry ingredients together, add the eggs and slowly add the water to make a soft dough. Kneed with wet hands, then leave for 15 mins.
Pre heat oven to highest heat, and place baking tray in to heat up.
Divide dough into 6. With floured hands roll into a ball and then shape into a tear shape.
Cook for 3 -4 minutes, then place under a hot grill for 30 seconds to crisp up.

Thanks.... I'm waiting to put the BM on before I go out at 4.32pm! Then bake when I get home. Useful to know that ASDA have the mix though....... just noticed, you have more of your grocery ££ left than I do LOL!

Just thought..... found one in Panny book (older version). Lo and behold, on the same page is a similar plait to Dee's but using bacon, onion and cheese. Also I did the pesto pinwheels on the same page

When I read through the recipe, it calls for 1/2 tsp BP and 1/2 tsp yeast, I haven't ever seen a recipe that needs both, I think I'll try it both ways, to see which we like the best, Obviously more convenient not to have to wait for it to rise.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I have tried to make them before but they come out like they do from the packet, too dry and tasteless.

How do i make a naan bread like they do in the restaurants:confused:

    Many thanks

Hi there this is the naan recipe i do and they freeze brilliantly -if they last that long ;)
    Naan bread recipe
    1. 1tsp dried yeast -I used a grapes sized piece of fresh
    2. 1tsp sugar
    3. 1tbs warm water
    4. 200g plain flour
    5. 1/4tsp salt -I used 1tsp as bread with to little salt is nasty :D
    6. 1/2tsp baking powder
    7. 1tbs oil
    8. 2tbs yogurt -I have used Greek and tzatziki when it needed using up(and the tzatziki ones are yummy):p
    9. 2tbs milk - I found i needed a little more
    • mix the 1st 3 ingredients together -if using dried wait 10 mins for it to foam
    • throw everything else into a bowl and add the yeast mix
    • mix to a dough and need for about 5 mins-if you can be bothered :rotfl:
    • cover and leave to rest for about 30 mins.. or until you remember
    • cut into 4 and roll out to an oval shape -not to thin mind..mine were about 1/2cm
    • place on a greased baking sheet and cover -leave for -well till you feel like it
    • whack in an oven for 10-15 mins 140c/275f/gas1 until lightly golden.. don't let them get crispy
    -6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.5
