Jo4 wrote:I booked my Christmas and New Years hair appointments on Saturday!! Hairdresser said that she was fully booked for Christmas Eve and New Years Eve so I had to take the evening before for both appointments! Obviously a lot of people are better organised than me!
Thanks for this post Jo4. You reminded me that I hadn't booked my appointments so I have just been and done it.0 -

DSmiffy wrote:For those of you who are as sad as me....... I have just bought my xmas cards and wrapping paper....absolute bargain.
If you have a Card Factory shop near you, get down there. They have lovely boxes of cards 15 for 99p. But best of all they have rolls of gift wrap, gorgeous designs in 4metre rolls, at 2 for a £1. Just bought some fab, red ones with santa and rudolph on. That's me set, all my cards and paper for the kids pressies only £3.97.
I get them in January Sales so I already have mine - I also use last year's cards to make pressie tags (after checking the list of who's who?) before recylcling them. Have got loads of cards/paper - most probably won't need to buy any for a year or 2.
I also save boxes or all sizes for awkward/surprise pressies. No one knows what they're getting as they all look the same. It's a standing joke now to say who's got the (!) box."It is always the best policy to speak the truth-unless, of course, you are an exceptionally good liar." - Jerome K Jerome0 -

Ah !! well I got caught out a couple of years ago doing just that. Bought all the Jan sale stuff, put it away in the loft, then had some building work done and the builders moved everything around in the loft and the xmas stuff I bought was never seen again.!! Boo hoo!!0 -

This might be a little expensive, but as it's homemade I'll post it anyway!
Buy a bottle of the cheapest vodka you can find and flavour it by putting in sweets or fruit. !I just made toffee vodka using a packet of Werther's originals (hard ones). !The vodka disolves the sweets. !It's really delicious and I don't even like vodka! !Other good ones to try are Extra Strong Mints, chocolate, pear drops. !Or for a more culinary treat use lemon grass, chilli's, peppercorn's etc - these are good with bloody mary's (excellent for hangovers!).
liquorice is good for this too, though takes ages to disolve. sadly doesn't work with malteasers.0 -
Bought Chrimbo cards and written the list now!Comping, Clicking & Saving for Change0

We have decided to really cut down on Christmas this year and I am scouring Ebay for bargains. I have found a really nice gift from Next on there with the tags on that I will give to a niece if I win it.
I had decided to buy my brother some aftershave for his present and found one on Ebay with the auction about to finish on Sunday morning. I did my best but didn't win. I was outbid in the last few seconds and it went for £15. Then, yesterday I just happened to pop into my local "The Perfume Shop" which is newly opened. Lo and behold they had the aftershave I was after knocked down from £28 to £7.99 (Kouros) and it was less than I would have paid on Ebay. Couldn't believe my luck. So I now have my first Christmas present bought. Its a decent present but I didn't have to pay the earth for it. I just hope the rest of my present buying goes as easily as this!0 -

What a brilliant idea. I've just discovered Dooley's (Toffee flavour vodka) but it's not cheap so I might have to experiment with this idea!
I've finally read through this thread. There's no way that I can start planning xmas in Summer, but mid-September sounds more reasonable.
I've got some presents lined up, all the bargains and freebies saved throughout the year. I just need to store them all properly and make a list of what I've got and who I still need to buy for.
I've got some wrapping paper and cards and need to sort them out so that they are easily accessible and I don't end up having to buy more because I can't find the last lot! I'm going to have a go at making homemade xmas decorations this year, as I will be at home for two days a week with my three year old and it will be a nice little project to do together.
Good luck everybody!0 -
Right - I have started!
a pair of wicker baskets lined with cream material in Tesco for £3.97 (£1.98 each). I am going to fill each basket with 'nice things'. There are five adult males and four adult females whom I can never think of things to buy.
In Tesco Lynx Shower gel is BOGOF (£1.97 normally so £0.98 per item) and I got four of those to start off. They smell really nice too, I shall have to keep them out of reach of my husband.
Each of the small boxes will fit probably 8-10 bottle sized items in it so I'm just going to keep my eye out for BOGOF toiletry goodies but I am also thinking about putting stuff in such as : Liquid handwash, shampoo, socks, bar of chocolate, £1 scratchcard, deodorant, socks, shower scrunchie, mini bottle of whisky, nice Lush soap and buy a cheap soap -tray thingie to put in it, item of make-up and wrap each item individually. Hopefully I can just buy things from the local supermarket as I grocery shop, and to boot I also live in Pound Shop capital of the UK, which helps!April 2006 - £9790.26dr. DFD - March 20110
