Owens, I think the only thing to do is to be up front and honest. Set a limit and let everyone know what it is. We (as a family) have set a £10 limit this year. The extended family set a £10 - and only for children 20 years ago when someone was unemployed - that has never changed.
Maybe a personal note to everyone, giving the limit, what you don't know is how many of the others will be grateful. However, the point is that you must not get into debt - or hardship to give people over expensive gifts. It can be done this year as people can take things back to the shops.0 -
I know in previous years people have posted on this thread at this time of year, perhaps it might help people who are new to the forums and want to spend less and get organised for Christmas 09, especially as people might have less money than normal?? So thought I'd bump it to see what people thought....Official DFW Nerd no. 082! :cool:Debt @ 01/01/2014 £16,956 Debt now: £0.00 :j

My 'plan' is to have all my gifts ready by October. Whether I'm successful is another story! Thanks for bumping - don't think I've read this yet, perhaps I'd better get startedTaking baby-steps :beer:0

I usually start getting the presents in September. I'm mostly finished by the end of November, except for a few bits and bobs.
I've got some cherry vodka *brewing* atm. Had some left over cherries from jam making, so layered them with sugar in a large jar after pricking them, then poured a bottle of vodka over them. They've only been going for a couple of weeks, but already the vodka is a lovely red colour. Should be lovely by xmas and will make 3, 250ml bottles for gifts.
I'm thinking the cherries would be nice chopped up along with chopped almonds and then mixed into dark chocolate to make boozy cherry almond chocs!0 -
Glad this has come up again! Christmas will happen whether we like it or not:eek:
Today I had actually look at my last year's Christmas Budget planning spreadsheet to see if I could adjust it at all. Maybe I put it in your mind PurplePrincess!!0 -

Since this thread was started, we have the Festivals and Celebrations BoardThat tends to host most of the Christmassy threads now, and you might find more varied threads over there.
I'm still not discussing Christmas with anyone until I've enjoyed the summer holidays and my birthday
