  • Well, I admit I haven't read all seventy-plus pages of this thread :rotfl:god you lot can talk! ;)

I have however started buying a few small christmas gifts. I've just started a temp job that I'd quite like to keep beyond christmas if offered (it's covering maternity leave) as i enjoy it and it's good experience for moving on afterwards. Problem is it's term-time only which means... no pay for 2 weeks in December. Argh!

So far I've bought my mum a lovely jewelery set - necklace and bracelet with a real shell accented with silver on each, and the bracelet is a 'charm' type with lovely real sones and glass beads. It cost a tenner inc postage which I think was well worth it :)

I've also bought my nephew this version of Aesop's Fables - the illustrations are beautiful and through Amazon Marketplace cost me £5.15 including postage. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Aesops-Fables-Saviour-Pirotta/dp/0753461331/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1222279441&sr=1-2

And finally, not a Christmas pressie but bought for a brithday, but I think it's a great toy for the price - build your own car from ELC. I just got it delivered and it looks great, I wanna go! :Dhttp://www.elc.co.uk/toy/build-your-own-vehicle/ . I think for £10 this is a really nice toy that will get a lot of use.

I live about 250 miles away from my family so pressies have to be small and light for either postage or train travel... nightmare!

Have finished two cushion covers for a friend for Christmas, now need to make cushions to save having to buy readymade pads....any ideas?

    Marie

Wilkos do cushion pads for about £1.00-£1.50 each (I think poundland do them too but they tend to be a bit under-stuffed IMHO). Cheap enough that I would have thought making them would be more expensive and more hassle?

Thanks Light is fading....neither shop is available unfortunately as I live in Ireland, where nothing is cheap anymore! I think that I am going to make an effort with some wadding that I have (can't remember why or where from!) and am going to use some of OH's old vests bleached to make the pad cover...have 2 covers knitted which will then go over them...will see how they work out and only buy pads if they are absolute carp!

    Thanks for your help

cushion covers knitted is a good idea. That will solve one of my problems this xmas TY !
  • I was in B&Q yesterday and some of their patterned wallpapers were reduced to £2 a roll. Highly decorative and so perfect for wrapping paper, especially the bigger items. I'm hoping the one roll will wrap everything this Christmas!
  • this is my first post been reading lots though! love all the money saving ideas and xmas ideas. orlando26 x

The index gift company had some things in work today, so I got 8 presents for £14.50. Not too bad.
Thanks to all the lovely people on here I have managed to cut my hours down to 2 days a week, allowing me to spend more time with my gorgeous Children. :j

I'm really pleased as nearly all my xmas pressents are wrapped in the attic. I have already bought my mincemeat for mince pies and 2 xmas puddings and 2 luxury choc sponges ready for steaming on my two xmas dinners (i do two dinners a week a part as my parents have both re-married).

I also have all my xmas cake ingrediants.

I have xmas crackers that i bought from Tesco last year in the sales together with my wrapping paper and xmas cards.

I have today bought my two frozen turkey crowns from Aldi (£8.99 each)...i had one last year and it was lovely with meat to spare.

I now only need to buy beers and a couple of bottles of wine for my two meals and fresh veg for the days.

I'm so proud of myself this year as this has all been bought over the last two months and included in my grocery challenge.

Great to see everyone's ideas and how organised people are :T !

Pretty much up to date here: have all the Xmas presents bought so far wrapped, I've made all the chutneys (just got to put some nice holly material and ribbon on top which I'm doing tonight), have the xmas cake tins ready (going to buy ingredients this week) and I've got my daughters birthday presents organised (both in december too - didn't plan it very well  !)

Popped to our local garden centre this morning and they've got all their decorations up :xmastree:- was like a real winter wonderland ...... luvvly !!! :D
