Am thinking of a movie night hamper for my BF and her hubby. Popcorn, sweeties, chocs, bottle of wine, candles and then will giv them a voucher or something for the film. A really nice night in (they both work crazy hours, even over xmas so their nights together are at a premium!). Any other ideas to add to this?

How about a LoveFilm or other online DVD rental subscription?

You could add in a box of tissues for the tearjerkers!

My very special tip for Christmas presents, if you know anyone who works in a warehouse / office / supermarket get them to obtain some boxes, all sizes, then wrap the each present up as you normally would, now place the present in a box use unwanted newspaper / magazines or anything to ensure it's secure in the box, then wrap the outside of the box with Christmas paper, and there you go, you're present is well disguised, I do it every year, it's surprising the expression on peoples faces when they see what's actually in the box :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

    *My smilies never worked, hummmm*

Thanks Debbie. This would be too expensive though. I know when we had the 3 disc subscription it was £15 a month. I know you can get one dvd at a time, but even then much more expensive than we have budgeted for. Thanks ever so much though for answering.

Here the Blockbuster amounts if anyone is interested though as its a cracking idea
    1 DVD At A Time For 3 Months - £25.00
    1 DVD At A Time For 6 Months - £50.00
    1 DVD At A Time For 12 Months - £100.00

    3 DVDs At A Time For 3 Months - £40.00
    3 DVDs At A Time For 6 Months - £80.00
    3 DVDs At A Time For 12 Months - £150.00

Anyone got a good Christmas cake recipe either using Rum or Whisky?I've only got the delia one and tbh I'd like to use the rum or whisky up as neither will get drunk

I was in Tesco today and they had Kilner Jar (quite large ones) £1.75 each we are in Aberdeenshire, but would think they would be a nation-wide item. HTH anyone interested in the Gift in a Jar ideas.

I am getting a few this weeks for Jams for our "oldies", there are a couple of decent looking recipes for the breadmaker so will give it a try.

I thought about getting 3 jars also for my boys and filling them up of the sweets they like rather than the usual selection box.

    I LOVE THIS THREAD! :)

Got the little knitting needles I wanted for grand-daughters 1 and 2 who want to start knitting...will roll about 5/6 small balls of wool each from wool I have and we will be all set! Also got 2 fleece blankets for grandsons...camouflage pattern so not girly which would have been a big mistake.

One of the cushion covers I am knitting is nearly done, although next one may be on bigger needles as it has taken me longer than I expected to do this one.

Happy to be moving on with Christmas preparations...cake will be late this year as I am making a chocolate one...if there is room in the new freezer when it comes I could do it and freeze it ready to ice christmas week....mmmm

Obviously cant afford to do anything this month but I've done tons of overtime this month so I will be starting xmas shopping next month (seen tons of stuff already!) I think to get myself in the mood I'll do a list this week of who I need to buy for etc.

Lesley, if it's for fruit soaking, then I use whatever is open *hic* I have been using up a bottle of port and I often use rum.
Rum would be nice used to 'feed' it.
