Last year for a few female friends and relations I bought each of them plate decorated with a Christmas character. They were £2.99 each in TK Maxx and were dinner plate size. I also bought each one a matching themed cookie cutter and wrapped them up together with this poem

I made a plate of cookies to share with you this year
I thought it was a good way to spread some Christmas cheer
They all looked really tasty, so I thought I'd eat just one
And a little while later, I noticed there were none.
    So here's my Christmas greeting,
    And a cookie cutter too,
Now you can make your own cookies,
    And maybe share a few

Truely artisitic ones could paint and decorate their own, maybe children could do them for grandparents.
A recipe could also be included and even the ingredients, depending on how generous you're feeling!

    :T :T

Reminds me of the "Dustpan Cookies" idea that I got from the internet years ago (website source no longer exists):-

    I was in a hurry
    Cos time was running out
I'd baked a batch of cookies for you
    And when I turned about
I saw they'd fallen on the floor
It made me want to shout!
How could this happen at this time
    When time was running out
I couldnt' throw them in the trash
    Whatever could I do!?
I quickly swept them in this pan
And rushed them off to you :D

Dustpan and brush sets can be bought in the £1 shop, home made biscuits can be wrapped in a square of cloth and put in the pan and the whole lot wrapped in cellophane and tied with some ribbon and a label with the poem (or your own version?) and recipe attached. Guaranteed smiles :):):):)

    Hi

When I was a child I recall Mum having made decorations from old cards. I suppose similar size card shapes are needed and then you make an 'edge' around all four sides and then add it to the next card and so forth. She used to finish them with ribbon and hang from the ceiling.

I used to love them and they were decorated with glitter. Cheap to make too as you just need to use old card scenes so sort of environmenatlly friendl.

I had forgotten about them until I read this thread.

Crate and Barrel have some great ideas for Xmas ornaments, which I'm sure you could easily make.

Also, unfortunately its another US site but Uncommon Goods for more gift ideas (be warned: this site has some amazing things on there and could easily have you spending a small fortune :) )

We used to make little boxes from our old xmas cards. The white card from the back would be a smaller box base and the decorated scene from the front of the card a slightly bigger box for the top. A bit of string and they look lovely hung from the tree. We spent ages making these as kids.

Is it any good? I'd like to buy a magazine, but worried it might be a bit 'old' (no offence meant). I'm only 25, but I'm just not interested in those fashion and celeb magazines.

I've been reading the OS magazine thead.
