thanks for the reminder Herby - we also get the vouchers for the 10% night at boots. I work for the NHS but friends who work in schools also seem to get the invites too.0

I have to admit that I am not keen on those mass-produced Round Robin letters for the same reasons you have mentioned. They always make it seem like the person is showing off a bit. Having said that, my friends are all at the having babies age and last year quite a few just popped in a photo with a few sentences scribbled on the back. That seemed better to me, I think I'd rather have a couple of lines written personally for me than have a longer impersonal letter.
I'm interested to hear other people's views on this.0 -
I'm not keen on the Round Robin letters either although I have to admit that many years ago I was guilty of sending them too!
Nowadays I like to think that I keep in touch with friends and family all year round (on and off!) so no letters at Christmas from me but a few lines on just a few cards. I'm streamlining Christmas - simple and easy is best for me.
What I would like to know is: Real Tree or not?0 -
We don't have a real tree for a couple of reasons :
- They're never available near us early enough :rotfl: I like to put my tree up on the 1st December
- If we did buy a real one as early as I want to put a tree up (would mean searching around probably) then it would no doubt be dead before Christmas Day
- They SHED needles everywhere
- I break out in a rash when I "do" real trees so it's not worth the hassel to me
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 - They're never available near us early enough :rotfl: I like to put my tree up on the 1st December

It absolutely positively definitely has to be real!!! We don't put our tree up until after my birthday (11th Dec) and the smell of the pine is just perfect, and always brings back loads of happy memories of Christmasses when I was growing up. I don't go in for matching decorations either, or single colour baubles; I use all the multicoloured ones that I can rememer from my Nana's tree, and some from Mum's that she's handed on.
I love Christmas!!

Real tree
This year it will be a tiny one I fear or there won't be room for everyone! Am going to make decorations for mini trees for my grandparents (I fold stars from ribbon and make little decorations from stamps) and I'll send them over to my mum to put on a pair of little trees so they can have one each in their rooms at the nursing home
Actually that would could be their pressies for this year... they'd appreciate it more than anything I could buyEspecially as it was them who taught me to make the decorations so they know how much work goes into it

We always have a fake tree, to get round the lack of scent with an artificial tree I made some little bags from some material with that has stars and xmas type prints on, they're about 5in x 2in and look pretty hanging on the tree.
I then stuff them 2/3rds full with cotton wool and add a few drops of pine essential oil or you can use cinnamon and orange oils for a change. I've even used the cheap fragrance oils and as long as they have a nice seasonal scent they work fine. Just above the cotton wool I tie a ribbon round the top and hang it from a branch. I have about 30 on my tree doted about, the warmth from the treelights helps to release the fragrance and you can add a few more drops of oil into the bags as the scent disappears. I've been using the same bags now for 5 years, each year I add new cotton wool and have a nice festive scented tree.:xmastree:NSD Challenge 2010:Jul 12/12; Jun 21/14 :T; May : 6/6

i brought a gorgeous fibre optic twig type tree for £3 at the car boot a couple of weeks ago its about 3 foot tall white but when you plug it in it changes colour (not as tacky as it sounds) for the main tree we have a fake one now as it goes up 1st week in dec.
It used to go up christmas eve after the girls had gone to bed when we only had 2, we told them santa brought the tree and decorated it (it was a real tree and i used to put the decoration box in the with santas mince pie and sherry. But as the family grew santas work load increased and the kids wanted to do the decorating so now its a fake one earlier
just had my prima delivered there is a christmas traditions suppliment with it that has some lovely flet decorations in to make. some nice recipies as wellSPC~12 ot 124
