suekjw wrote:Luna69 - where did you get that playmobil calender from and how much was it please?I know it was last year, but it sounds good, expensive (I suspect!), but good!
Hi
There are a few places sell them, especially online, I think mail order express have them. I actually got mine from ebay as it was slightly cheaper even with postage, so you could search on there... they are usually priced around £11 though. However all the bits build up a scene at the end and can be played with each year even if not used as an advent again.
You do have to put it together beforehand, make up the boxes, attach them to the backing board to hang on the wall and put each piece into the relevant numbered boxes.. but it's actually part of the fun. There is a new one out this year which I'd like, but not sure yet, they are pricey. Kids love them though and could be part of a present?
We have a playmobil nativity set and 3 kings set I got for my DS around 5 years ago, it comes out every Christmas and the kids play with it. Think you can still buy those too.

I'm definitely the Christmas "enthusiast" in our house
OH knows better than to comment or interfer
Partially because he'll get it wrong somehow
And I don't want the dog/cats being able to reach something the shouldn't and choking etc...
So other than handing a bit of cash over and buying my pressie then his responcibility would be limited to signing a few cards and helping with clearing up etcDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!
My DFW Diary - blah- mildly funny stuff about my journey0 -
Well, I just got on with it in the end and made a batch of mincemeat. I followed Delia's recipe, and it's currently 'marinating', so I keep on giving it a bit of a stir and haing a good sniff.
I also bought my Xmas crackers on Monday - £4.99 for 12 luxury crackers from Chaplins
Does anyone know how to calculate how many lights you need for a tree? This is my first Christmas on my own and I don't know! We'll have a fairly small tree, probably about 5 foot tall? And quite slim, because we don't have that much space. We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0 -
My bf is very much a christmas eve shopping man, even though his mum - like me - shops all year round and gets excited around about August (we've had a few carol singalongs already this year...) However, this is the first year we'll be living together (agh, that's scary writing that, one week til I move in!) and although he thinks he knows how excited I get he really has no idea... he's already seem my Christmas countdown sign, but has yet to see how many fairy lights there'll be round the bedroom and how early the tree goes up... He did help me find Christmas song videos on YouTube last week though, and is - I think - begrudgingly impressed by the fact I've got a lot of pressies already. I know that he won't have anything bought until the 24th though, and he even bought his sister's present the morning of the 27th on the way to seeing her last year... (which would obviously be moneysaving if it was specifically to buy in the sales, but no, it was just his way!)
Woolies has brown paper for 99p if you don't have an ikea or wilkos near you! Wilko brown paper tends to be not great quality though, although that might just be my one.Returning MoneySaver, now furiously saving for a house deposit...0 -

Put lights on xmas tree.........:rotfl:
That was just what I was gonna say!!
I do quite enjoy looking for all the pressies throughout the year, but writing out all the cards is a real chore, so I am planning on starting really soon!!:rotfl:0 -
Meant to ask what do you all think about a Christmas letter to go in with the christmas card??
I have done them in the past as they save lots of time writing all the family's news but just wrote individual very brief notes last year.
Also I have received some dreadful ones in the past last year I had one which was full of all the family's fab achievements and numerous overseas holidays and how the poor wife was kept busy making packed lunches and organising the staff!! I was recovering from major surgery at the time and actually thought it would have been worse if all was a nightmare in my life as would have felt inadequate and depressed.
Would hate to make anyone depressed or whatever by doing that but would like everyone to know what we have been up to and make them smile!!
What do you reckon??0 -

Mine OH's contribution is: -
Stand on a ladder in the lounge and moan alot cause I want deccies on the ceiling (moan is actually too polite - more like rants and raves!).
Moans that Christmas is overrated but then insists that he plays 'Santa' on Xmas morning and gives out the presents (bearing in mind we have no kids, I think that's a bit sad!).
Then stuffs his face with all the Christmas dinner, pudding, cake, booze and cheer that he can muster and then falls asleep in the chair while I wash up!!!I consider myself to be very lucky. :j Apart from my mortgate, I am debt free. I do not own a credit card and I even have £400 saved in Premium Bonds. :A :grouphug:0 -
OH's contribution to Christmas :
- Write cards to his friends and family (I make sure this is done before December 1st
) - I buy them, he writes them
- Puts the tree up - last year we bought a new one and he actually picked it
We also bought more fairylights as the tree was just a little bit bigger than the year before
But I decorate it :rotfl:
- Helps me put the other decorations up...if I ask him.
- Plays taxi to me :j:rotfl:
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 - Write cards to his friends and family (I make sure this is done before December 1st

Hello everyone, this is my first post so if I'm posting in the wrong place please be gentle with me :blushing: I haven't found my tip for cutting the cost of Xmas anywhere, so thought I'd post it, sorry if someone else has mentioned it.
My hubby works for a company that annually gives all employees 10% off at Boots a few days leading up to Xmas. We make a list of suitable presents from thier catalogue for all the family using the 3 for 2 offers that Boots have this time of year. We use any advantage card points we've earned during the year and then get the 10% off as well. Past few years we've got presents for everybody and saved on average £150, last year it was £165! Granted it means everybody gets Boot's pressies but it's better than none at all and it means we don't end up spending more than we can afford at Christmas. Last year we even spent enough to get 2 free soft toys that they were giving if you spent over a certain amount, came in useful for birthday presents this year!
The double bonus for me is all the xmas shopping gets done on one day and usually before town is too crowded.NSD Challenge 2010:Jul 12/12; Jun 21/14 :T; May : 6/6
