  • Thought I'd drop a note about some childrens fun seeds pots I brought in woolworths yesterday for christmas pressies...

They were priced up at £4.99 ..went down to £2.49..and now £1

They are Mr Fothergills Tiny Toms fun seeds with a pot.

A miniature tomato plant with tiny tasty toms! mmmmmmmm

The kit contains a fun coloured pot (mine are bright green), compost, a sachet of seed and full growing instructions.
To be sown Jan-april and harvest Jul/oct

I'm really pleased with mine as I had picked up some mini gardening kits in the Oxfam sale, so these will go with them nicely. :)

I had told my little girl I would buy tomato seeds this year and we never got round to it, I'm going to see if I can find this in our Woolies for a Christmas present, thanks for letting us know.

Picked up some boxes of chocs from a factory outlet thorntons clearance shelf at the weekend. They have a feb 2007 date and so will be perfect for a few xmas pressies.

Can't believe I'm almost there. Only have a couple of people to finish off and then I'm done. Don't know how to 'finish them off' though....but to be honest I'm not too bothered this year. They can always have a cuddle with a newborn bean instead.

My mum bought me a chocolate advent calender one year (many moons ago) and then kept it and removed the plastic tray and refilled it with melted chocolate, then shut all the doors again. I think it went on for a few years and cheaper than buying a new one each year!

You can buy them on Ebay or Amazon, I think they are over £10 but can played with again and again. I bought one last year but I see that Lego have a calendar which I might choose instead. I prefer it to the chocolate calenders as well.
  • IF I haven't got time to make my own mincemeat I buy an ordinary jar and put it in a mixing bowl and add a grated apple, grated orange rind and a tablespoon of brandy (bought duty free and kept especially for Christmas cooking) Give it a good stir, cover and leave overnight and use for bulk mince pie baking - tastes as good as luxury brands - and is a 'bit' home- made!!!

My mum made our advent calendar. It's a large patchwork Christmas tree with triangular pockets making up the tree and we usually put wrapped chocs in there (one each for me and DH and 1 for potential guests!) Then she's used gold fabric at the top for the 25th pocket where we put 2 large gold coins from M and S in for a treat on Christmas morning!!

Not doing too bad present wise. Earlier in this thread I'd said about recycling presents, which seems to have gone well, most people are accounted for! It's just the few family members who are more particular! We're desparately wanting pigsback to give me the last 150 points so I can order 2 boots vouchers and lightspeed are taking their time in sending me what I need to order a £15 voucher from them! Come on! Don't they realise it's nearly Christmas!!

Wow what a long thread!! One of the things which I had been looking high and low for and couldn't find and which would make a good pressie is a plastic bag dispenser. For those who can sew (and I'm not one of them) it is basically a rectangle of material which is sewn into a tube (the tube would be about 20cm wide - so about 45cm wide material allowing for a seam)and you sew elastic into each end and a bit of ribbon to hang it on a door knob. Then you stuff it with your shopping bags at one end and pull them out the other. I find it really handy as I use the shopping bags for bin liners.
