  • Me and DH do christmas stockings for each other with a mixture of silly stuff from the cheapo shop (DH wsa most impressed with his gliders last year) and toiletries that we both need. We also have one present a year which never changes - we get a "yard of books" each from the charity shops. The pile of books has to be no more than 12" - hence the yard..... we've been doing it for so long that it's a kind of tradition now. When we have children (fingers crossed) we'll be doing the same with them (although it may be less than a yard) and when we've done with the books they get donated somewhere else!! It's a win win situation.
But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green :D

Oh I love this idea...think I may have to promote it to Hubby although he isn't terribly au fait with charity shops...or "granny shops" as he calls them:rolleyes:

I know some OSers who post on here are able to get to Bromley - there's a Hawkins Bazaar shop just opened in the Glades. I used to get stocking fillers from their mail order catalogue. they had a number of little bits and pieces for under 50pence - polystyrene gliders , that sort of thing. Also good if you have a Secret Santa at work - I really struggled to find anything under the price limit other than candles (and that's no good for a bloke)

It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Thankfully we don't have children yet so no need to worry about advent calendars this year :)

We don't have children and are in our....early 30's (slight white lie there methinks!!!) but I INSIST we have an advent calender EVERY year. I'm the biggest kid going. Even the cat has her own stocking at christmas and I wrap her prezzies up too!!!:snow_laug

  • I've bought a few prezzies - 2 woolie jumpers for dad, a book for hubby and 2 t-shirts for hubby but I'm struggling a bit with mum already. she's very hard to buy for....the woman who has everything and needs nothing!!!!

I was going to make some mincemeat, but not sure if I can be bothered to go to all the fuss now! My Mum said to just buy the expensive mincemeat from the supermarket - apparently it's got a lot better now.

Ca anybody vouch for this? If so which brand should I go for?

I have never made my own mincemeat but I've always bought Robinson's. I get the ordinary one, nothing too fancy cause I don't like brandy and they usually put that in the 'posher' ones.

Do you like cross stitch and do you have a Hobbycraft near you?

In Hobbycraft you can little Christmassy cross stiches for 99p each. When you've made them you could back them for Christmas tree decorations or perhaps put them in little frames or perhaps frame them and use them as stocking fillers (?).
