    Hi all,

I am mighty annoyed because I went over my agreed overdraft limit and have been charged a hefty £75.00 despite when I noticed quickly transferring some money over from my savings account. Is there anyway I can reclaim this charge?

I have read the folloon this site that if I have only been charged once or twice to call the bank and demand the money back. Is this really successful and can anyone please advise me as to what I should say?

    Thank you so much

    Christina

same thing has happened to me, hate them so much!! I was looking on the HSBC thread but it seems quite old now. I was wondering if I can claim it back as they still paid my DD's and I guess they didn't have to!! They just charged me for an unauthorised overdraft. Has happened the past couple of months so I can never get back on track as they keep stinging me!

I would check the terms and conditions for the account before you ring them up and demand the money back!
If you believe the charges are unfair you would be best off writing to them. When you sign up for the account you agree to the contract. If they have made an error I would phone them but if it was your error you can only claim it back if the charges are deemed to be 'unfair'.
  • I've just been charged £50 by HSBC for going overdrawn for the first time, because it was twice within a week, each for a couple of days at a time.

Any other banks doing this? I hear Barclays are cutting their fees, not raising them.

It is always worth phoning to see if they will make a goodwill gesture and give back part or all of the charge. However I would strongly suggest you ask politely and explain your reasons, not go in demanding the money. Being polite and apologetic is going to go a lot further than jumping in and demanding anything.

If they won't give back the money then you'll have to go down the full reclaim route.

It is also worth remembering that Barclays cutting fees doesn't equate to stopping them altogether, and anyway the changes don't come in until August.

Even with the new Barclays rule it states:
The bank is also offering a temporary authorised overdraft extension for £22

Which is higher than the £15 my work colleague was charged by HSBC last month.

    Hi everyone.
I have received a letter from HSBC 'pet' solicitor stating that my claim has been settled outside of court and that the funds have been paid directly to me.
It then asks me to notify the court that the claim has been settled and to close the dispute.
however, no monies have been paid to me either directly or via the court or my account. Neither do HSBC know anything about said settlement.
There have been several of these letter received by fellow HSBC claimants and none of them have had any money returned to them. The solicitors themselves do not answer their 'phone and just play a recorded message.
Is there anyone on here who can shed any light on this matter as, if these letters are spurious then, someone is going to sign away their claim unwittingly.
are they allowed to send these letters and then blame it on a 'clerical error'?

    Dear Mr XXXXX

Re : Myself-v- HSBC Bank Plc
    Claim number : ********

Thank you for your letter dated xx/xx/xx and I'm very pleased to note that your client has agreed to pay my claim. I am unaware of any settlement offer by your client and no monies have been paid into my account. Perhaps you could give me further information.

You may wish to know that the current amount of my claim is £XXX.XX (which includes statutory interest up and till today)

I look forward to your reply and your advice as to when I will receive the monies. Once I have received payment I will be happy to inform the court that the case is settled.

    Yours sincerely

It might be better to telephone actually as you can add a note of pleading to your request that doesn't quite come across in a letter.
