  • I checked my online statement and £25 had been taken from my Meridian account as "CHARGES OD ARRANGEMENT". I called the bank immediately and apparently all HSBC customers have been charged this following a letter allegedly sent in February saying they would be "reviewing" the overdraft facility and that there would be a £25 charge for this.

I said I didn't even want the overdraft any more, which I think rattled them as they agreed to refund MY MONEY as a "goodwill gesture" and still keep the overdraft facility open, but I wonder how many other customers will not notice this charge and how much money HSBC will make from this exercise.

    Be warned!

HSBC are gonna charge me £40 on April 1st! An 'arrangement fee' apparently.. because I have been over my overdraft limit more than once in a 6 month period. It's not fair.. how do they expect peoples' finances to get better if they charge them because they are over the limit?? Do you think I should send them one of the template letters?

HSBC are gonna charge me £40 on April 1st.. I only get £100 a month or so as I work part time. I was only overdrawn by a tiny bit, but this charge is so unfair. Do you think I should send them a letter or is it not worth it because of this court case? Thanks, Bella

They don't, they expect them to get worse so that they can keep fleecing you over & over again. Brilliant isn't it?

Go into the branch (or call "Customer services" if you are fluent in pigeon English) and ask them politely if they would waive it on this occasion if you promise to be good. If they say no, then send them the template letter..

hi, wondering if anyone can help.

a few weeks ago i saw martin on his channel 5 programme talking about opening student accounts and moving the interest free overdraft into an isa or other high interest account. i did this a few years ago. the problem is hsbc converted the account to an interest account after a few months saying i hadn't paid into the account. recently sorting out my stuff i came across the original overdraft agreement and its fixed term. they also passed on my details to a credit agency so gave me a poor credit rating for doing this. can i claim back and get compensation as well? why shouldn't i be as greedy as the banks. if i can should i request an amount?

    i'd appreciate any help.

I was due my day in court about 3 days before the stay order came in :(

I can't see the banks losing their case, I just don't see it. The banks drive this country and with the current credit problems...well I just don't see it happening.

Anyway, should I call HSBC up and ask them to come up with a deal? I feel really demoralised by the whole wait and part of me just wants it all over and done with

You could, but I would find it very unlikely they would offer much if anything. They have the protection of the waiver, so they don't need to do anything.

    Thanks for the reply

I take it I just have to sit back and wait for another year or so?
