You can pick up Harpic limescale loo power cleaner from Poundland (for a quid obviously) and it works a treat and does the job. Smells nice too. I get about four applications out of that so 25p a go which isn't too bad.

If you go down the wad of toilet paper route, tear the toilet paper into squares first so it breaks up more easily once it flushes, or you can take it off in the morning :D

Failing that - there is a chemical cleaner called one stop which will dissolve virtually anything, including you (but not the bottle it comes in) and i've used that successfully in the past :)

Rub very gently with a pumice stone and small amount of a cream cleaner, I tried this and it works even tho it takes a little while.
  • You can scrape scale off with a 2p coin without taking the glaze off the bowl. It's strangely satisfying!

A house we used to rent, the loo was so badly scaled it wouldn't flush very well at all, & I used an old table knife to chip away the encrustations...

Done that too and used coke, washing machine cleaner and either the blue Harpic or light blue lidded Domestus - can't remember which one.

Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
    And we were young.

Had a similar one here in my house, plus a distinct 'aroma' _pale_
I drained the cistern and used the Black harpic then scrubbed with old panbrush, lifted out the debris, put the water back on and flushed a few times, aroma gone and flushed well :j

The toilet in our rented house had serious hard core layer of lime scale! I have poured a bottle of cola, used lime scale tablets, vinegar and scrubbed with the brush over the course of three weeks

Please to say most of it is off except for some stubborn bits along the sides.

I am tempted to attached a scoure pad (the silver ones) to a stick to scrub it off - but will that scratch the porcelain?

anyone have any magic tips for me?

    Thanks :)
Love reading the oldstyle board...always something to learn!

I think its probably best to use a limescale remover like Harpic and leave it on as long as you can, because once you scratch the porcelain it attracts more limescale and you are forever cleaning it.
