you need to dissolve the limescale. Vinegar . Pour a lot of vinegar into the toilet. leave overnight. repeat until the limescale has gone.

how can i get the water out of the toilet????

    xx

    Hi

I just used an old tea towel to soak up the water from the toilet bowl (have a bag to hand to put the towel into if your sink is not nearby) and then once the bowl was empty I sprayed viakil, the toilet will only refill with water when the chain in pulled

But I'd like to get rid of this small brownish limescale at the back of the loo, like I said where the water comes in, probably only about an inch square, but once I've seen it I want it gone (and also any I can't see under the rim)

    thanks

I'm still struggling with this small inch square of limescale, it's just around the hole where the water comes in, no one else can see it but I know it's there.

i tried malt vinegar soaked in tissue, i've done that numerous times, leaving in for hours, and also bicarb with and without the vinegar....also tried just about every harpic they do with no success :(

    any other ideas????

    thanks muchly
  • We recently moved into a 7 year old house, and on the third floor is a bathroom that rarely got used by the previous owners. We are having guests over to stay, and they will be using this bathroom so I just went to give it a good clean but noticed the toilet bowl is completly brown. Bleach hasn't touched it. What would you suggest?

The best thing I have found, chemical wise, is Harpic Power Clean. We left it overnight and the next day the toilet was sparkling (which is no mean feat with 2 children who 'forget' to flush) lol

No doubt though someone will be along with a fabulous MSE way of doing it :)

Have you tried a can of cola, pour it down and leave overnight that's suppose to remove any stains.

It works to a degree on limescale, but will not help with the colour.

Try sprinkling copious sodium bicarbonate onto the porcelain, leave for a few hours and then get aggressive with the brush.

It might be years of limescale which is stained with, well, you know! Try a strong limescale remover for toilets.

Sodium Bicarbonate? The kind you put in cakes?

Get as much of the water out as you can - with sponge or mop. Careful if you break the seal (i.e. get all water out round the U bend) it well stink but at least you will know all the water will be out!!!

Then pour in several bottles of white vinegar and leave at least over night. THen scrub - you will need gloves. - and flush. It should all be off then

ETA - there are several threads about nasty loos!
I wanna be in the room where it happens
