Soak a thick wad of toilet paper with vinegar/limescale remover and 'stick' it to the back of the toilet - leave overnight :)

    I've been Money Tipped!
don't know if it will work but bicarbonate of soda mixed with a small amount of lemon juice and water to a paste then scrub it on what you are trying to get off.works on most things and cheap enough to try.and use the net bags that fruit comes in to scrub it with.they work really well.hth
  • Thanks both! :D Might try saraann21's suggestion first since we have all necessary 'ingredients' in the house... and lower risk of blocking the loo! And failing that I'll move on to Fruball's (carefully!)

Sanilav. Amazing stuff if you can find it but be careful where it goes.

A house we used to rent, the loo was so badly scaled it wouldn't flush very well at all, & I used an old table knife to chip away the encrustations...

But if you've had that once, you check the loo flushes ok when looking round a house before agreeing to rent - should have clarified it was like that when we moved in! I got that toilet clean & working, all by cleaning it.

Not saying that not cleaning it is why girl with no name's loo has the scale, where we are now, the downstairs loo has that really annoying bit of scale on the rim at the back where the water comes down as it flushes, & I know WHY (it wasn't fitted properly & had a tiny trickle of water constantly going along it) but hadn't worked out how to get it off.
  • To be honest, there's a tiny bit of limescale... barely visible, but mentioned after the last inspection so I imagine something they'll be looking out for when we leave! Have been regularly cleaning it, so don't really know how to prevent it in future...

I found Hagesan Blue works really well on toilets. Have had to resort to using it a few times when we've been in rented properties. You can find it in hardware stores.
