This may not work for a mega stubborn toilet but when we moved into our house our toilet needed a good clean,
I bought a cistern block and put that in straight away, I also bought a toilet rim with bleach in it (asda do them I do them, as do aldi) I then bleached the toilet every night before bed and gave it a good scrub every morning with a toilet brush, cleared up in a few days and you could eat your dinner off it now if iIdo say so myself!(although it would have a slightly bleachy taste ;) )
  • Tip a load of lemonade down the bowl. soak some loo roll in lemonade and plaster the rrst of the boel with it, leave it for a bit then scrub. Not sure where I picked this onee up from.x
  • Harpic in the black bottle definitely - I used to use bleach until my mum recommended this - I was a bit shocked at the amount of limescale that broke away the first time I used it!

Few things i have used whilst cleaning peoples grubby loos:rotfl:

Coke (can be cheap stuff not coca cola) left over night!

Viakal - limescale remover which is strong btu wont blow your head off :D

Denture tablets - empty some water so just enough water is covering the stained area. Drop in a tube if you have too and leave. Scrub in the morning and flush!

Harpic (the xxx power in black bottle) My no1 fan at keeping the loos white after you`ve got it clean!!

    I'd heard about denture tablets.

Is anyone else slightly concerned that something that sits in with this stuff end up in the mouth???

Still, is purpose it's the same with cola, if it does that to your loo, god only knows what it can do to your insides lol...

Best thing I've used is soda crystals, make a strong solution in the water in the bowl and let it soak overnight before scrubbing. I also like the in-cistern cleaners as they tend to contain a weak acid that will slowly but steadily break down scale in the bowl - just beware the colour in them can soak in to the limescale and make things look worse for a while!

Not heard of using denture cleaning tablets before, I live in a soft water area so no limescale issues here, but would these work as a general replacement for the cleaning blocks you can drop in the water? I don't really like the cleaning blocks, I like my black bottle harpic, but hubby likes the blocks, so a potentially cheaper alternative would be good, as the cleaning blocks are not cheap! Pop wouldn't work as it wouldn't be here long enough to be used (pesky husband and his love of fizzy)

When I lived in Brighton we used to go to the chemist and buy some Citric Acid. Empty bowl and make up with some hot water. Empty down bowl and leave. Used to use it for the kettle/iron too

Spirits of Salt. It's the fastest, easiest way to clean it all up. You may find that some hardware stores claim they're not allowed to sell it any more - my local one doesn't - but it is still available.

N.B. For those who have used it - I moved into a flat in a HA block once where even spirits of salt took THREE nights to clear the junk! Thankfully I was able to stay at my parents while we cleaned the place. Yeuch!
