I am a bit stuck with our two mums..
I may order some really lovely handmade beads and make them both something..for MIL I may make some of her fave choc brownies and package them up, for my mum maybe a photo of our dog, or pony
have run out of inspiration.....0 -
I;ve sorted out MIL (I think)..........found a pretty bag complete with Royal Jelly stuff in one of the charity shops so think I'll post that off to her. Has to be something postable due to the distance.
As for my Mum...........thats a bigger problem. She's quite poorly, fed through a tube and bedridden so apart from smellies or a new nightie (she had loads at Christmas) I'm getting stuck for ideas. She's in a care home and has limited space for plants and already has enough (I bought her some at Christmas) and she's inundated with photos of grandchildren.
Any ideas ?Mary

What about a bedjacket? They are quite useful for the bedridden... HTH.I don't want to make money, I just want to be wonderfulMarilyn Monroe0 -
I did think about that but she's got several already. She does get taken to the hairdresser sometimes...........depending on how she is .....and thats more for a hair wash than a proper hair do otherwise I thought I could pay for that.Mary

Had another idea...What about a painting of a favourite place that is memorable to her? Or maybe even a photo album or framed postcard collection of the place. Perhaps a book on the history of either this place or her home town? They can often be found on ebay quite cheaply and quite a lot of older people I know like to remember how places used to be...I don't want to make money, I just want to be wonderfulMarilyn Monroe0

Not sure this will be of any help, but when my Nana was v ill and we were stuck for pressie ideas, my cousin, who is good at taking photos, went to some of her fave places, including the town where she was born and took lots of photos- of things that have never changed- old buildings etc, then put them all in an album and my Nana loved it, she was totally thrilled. She used to look through it all the time and enjoy all the memories
Takes a bit of work and imagination, but you could scale it down maybe and do a mini album0 -
Thanks but I've already done that on previous birthdays/mums day and to be honest how she is her eyes wouldn't focus. I've showed her photos of my baby grandson and she can hardly see them.
It is a hard one. She doesnt watch her tele anymore or bother with the radio otherwise maybe a talking book would have been an answer. Having said that she's had them before and not used them.
Maybe smellies of some sort are the answer. They do get used to it'll be a useful thing for her...........just seems a bit 'the same' if you know what I mean.
I'm making her a card with a picture of her mum on it and her as a child and putting them in a sort of frame on the card. Did that with one of myself as a little girl last year and she never took it down. Maybe that's a gift in itself.
Oh, just had an idea................the photo of mum as a little girl I';m using on her card is part of one of her and her brother. He died in the war so I never knew him. It's postcard size so would take up hardly any room and maybe she'd like that to stand near Dads photo. What do you think ?
When she was able to talk she often rambled on about himMary
