Mothers day

Mothers day is 2nd of March this year

I have bought a handmade card so far, these are much nicer and cheaper than shop bought ones.

Just got to decide what to buy.

How much are people budgeting for mothers day?

In the past I've sent bunches of flowers (MIL and Mum live a distance away) but they be a bit costly especially towards Mothers Day so this year, trying to cut costs we've decided to limit it between £5 - £10 maximum.
Hope thats not sounding too mean but we're working on a tight budget this year. I might well end up doing a gift box of 'bits and bobs' that will be useful (bath stuff etc.) if I'm lucky it might end up cheaper.

Oh dear, it is an annual problem as MiL and Mum are both difficult to buy for:
    - can't buy smellies as both are fussy
    - Mum doesn't ever want things she has to look after (no plants), eat (no sweets) or dust (no vases etc).
    - MiL lives the other end of the country (posting expenses), is diabetic (so no sweets), kills plants ( ) and has a house full of things to dust already.

This year I got MiL a dressing gown in M&S sale (£9) because she likes to fill her wardrobe with clothes - OK, I was desperate, and OH never has any ideas!

In Boots today I found a Shaun the Sheep money box for Mum - she thinks he is hilarious, it makes a noise which will annoy my Dad and when she gets bored of it she can donate it to a charity shop;) .

    Job done!
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.

I was thinking of putting a hamper of smellies together, things are tight here too plus there is MIL birthday, SIL birthday, SIL2 birthday, my birthday, BIL birthday, SIL3 birthday and my birthday :D all very close together and we simply cant afford to spend a great deal.

my mother is difficult to buy for, last year i wanted to buy her an expensive bottle of wine (more than she would usually spend on wine herself) . but a few days before i intended to get some wine i saw a bottle in my local co-op on offer for 5.99 instead of 11.99 - as i was thinking of spending 10-12 pounds (sorry have a us laptop only has dollor sign not pound sign) i bought 2 bottles. my mum was very impressed with the wine and repremanded for having spent so much on her - confessed it was good wine 1/2 price offer and she gave me money to buy 6 more bottles for her while it was on offer.

I take my mum out for lunch on mother's day - we go for the carvery meal £7.99 per person plus drinks - she would rather do this than have a present (she has told me this) we get to spend the day together and neither of us has to cook:j

you have to be very creative in this matter, you don;t need lots of money, just be original, hand made stuff, (a beautiful elegant scarf bought last year for mummy, she loved it) this year i still have no ideas

I've been thinking about this too as I would like to treat my mum but budget is tight here too so i have decided to invite mum round here for a meal, we often go to hers as she has more space and more importantly a dishwasher, So I think this would show we care from the effort and give her a day off the cooking too.

One year I 'bought' my Mum a magazine subscription using Tesco clubcard deals. It didn't actually cost me anything ;) , she was very grateful.

I am going to make my mum vouchers, for stuff like...

    a pub carvery
    massage
    long chat on the phone

I don't see her very often so this would spread the cost of each item. An the vouchers I will make for very little.

 I didn't realise it was so early this year!

Was thinking about a treatment like Indian Head or similar if I can book her in for it - must look into that soon!
I think a meal would be nice too, best get money making!
