I'm going to join in even though I get paid mid month. I'd like to spend no more than £80 per month. By my reckoning, I've got £40 to get me through to 15 June. Mind you, some of you might have read my 'Ooops' thread - I've been spending too much lately so if I can spend less than £40, that would be a bonus.

Now all I have to do is remember how to go shopping OS. Don't let me anywhere near the chocolate aisle!!!!

Well, can you re-plan with whatever he did manage to buy...?

    AND

Can you plan on a skinflint end to the month to teach him a lesson? Make sure that all that's left to cook with are things that you like but he's not so keen on :)

    Cruel, I know... :D

Mmmm harsh but fair ....... :D

Trinity: Before you cut his hands off ask yourself is there anything I can use his hands for - novelty soap holder perhaps? :D Or would it be just too much trouble to clear up after the cutting off? :rotfl:
But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green :D

    Hi
this will be my first grocery challenge. We get paid fortnightly so our 'month' will run from the 7th July to the 4th August. I'm budgeting £200 for everything we buy except bills/rent etc Although I have to confess to having a well stocked pantry and freezer atm. But I am low on washing powder and washing up liquid etc

Our household comprises 2 adults,1 child and 6 cats.

I have followed the grocery challenge threads since they started. Now I am on a long summer holiday and feel I have no excuse for not joining!

I know I don't spend a huge amount on food, but have never kept an accurate track.

The store cupboards are very low at the momment, so I will be very much starting from scratch. I was very impressed a while ago by a post from Sarahsaver who said she never threw out anything. I have been trying to use up everything in the cupboards without buying new because otherwise some things (like a furniture polish that didn't smell as nice asthe others) will sit there until thrown out. I did throw out a box of gelatine though that was best before dated Nov 99!

I am going to try for £160 for the month for 1 adult, 1 child, 2 adult cats, 3 kittens (two due to go to new homes soon). we are away (cats as well!) on a self catering holiday for three weeks of the month, so this might make it a bit harder, as I won't have a freezer then.

Well, i tried a grocery challenge in the past and stuck to it for about a week :rotfl: hopefully will do better this time.

My challenge isnt helped by 1 person on Atkins and me on GI diet  so... here goes, £70 per wk for 4 adults, £65 for my main weekly shop and £5 contigency fund - mostly to be spent away from Tesco at Bolton Market for ethnic foods like Plantain, Okra etc and on my lunches (if Im too lazy to pack it).

So far have switched to non-weekend delivery from Tesco and using the e-vouchers to get that free. Got a slow-cooker, fab for ensuring dinner is ready when we all get in and we dont end up snacking. We never ate much ready meals so thats a saving in itself. Have also scrutinised my favourites and switched brands (no loyalty here) to the cheapest as a test.

My spend so far £60.30 (down fron 81.13 by buying some bogoffs on alternative brands which worked out cheaper than my usual  ) So Im up by £8.70, less the £1 I spent on a salad for a certain starving mate

Just a reminder that I'll be unsticking this thread some time late tomorrow - by which time it'll be the featured Grocery Challenge in our Monthly Challenges sticky.

You can find it in our "Challenges" sticky at the top of the forum listing, or you can follow the clue in my signature any time you see it or...

..you can use the Monthly Challenges link in the Blue Bar at the top of every page which looks something like this:-

Following on from my dismal failure last month (£248!?!?!) I am even more determined this month...
New budget is £150 for the 2 of us for food and £100 for my dog (food and vets) (he's expensive!).

But I must admit, I'm not sure I can do it!

    LOL :rotfl:

I'm joining in for the first time this month. As it's my first month I'm going to save all reciepts and monitor spending then set a target spend for next month.

It may be quite an expensive month though as our freezer packed up last week. So I will have to stock up when the new one arrives next week.

    Good luck all x

Thanks for starting this Squeaky, it's given me a kick up the bum! Although I wasn't buying ready made I wasn't keeping my receipts and the menu plan went out of the window after the first week.

It was too hot!! Thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it :D

Now I've read this thread I've resolved to get back on track, I hoping THIS thread will help if it's going to be hot again.

Budget: £80 a month, 2 people, though I might be able to do less if my garden keeps growing :j I already don't need to buy courgettes and the french beans are nearly edible.

Honey: You don't have to stock up all in one go. Sometimes I will make sure that I have enough meals to cover a set period, but if I want to stock the freezer up I will add a few bits and peices to the shopping basket or trolley. In otherwords you can stock up over a period of time rather than doing it in one go.
