A tip is if you normally shop weekly ie say Friday.. The next week shop on Saturday.. then Sunday etc. That way you lose a day's spending.0

Good luck everyone :j I've cut my shopping back since my husband lost his job but am not quite brave enough yet to actually put a set figure to my spending. Shall continue to read and learn though

Right. This morning I checked and noted my current bank balance and counted the cash I had around the place...
..so I know where I'm starting from.
Most of the utilities are paid by standing order so if at the end of this month I have more in the bank than I started with - I'm gonna reckon I've done a good job on the groceries and incidentals.
I shan't be doing the challenge as such this month, but I will be keeping track of all my expenditure so that I know where the money's going and so will be able to plan on challenging myself in August.

Erm, so I bought some magazines ...
And I paid with my debit card too. What an achievement that was.spendy/she/her ***DEBT-FREE DATE: 11 NOVEMBER 2022!*** Highest debt: £35k (2006) MY WINS: £3,541 CASH; £149 Specsavers voucher; free eye test; goody bag from Scottish Book Trust; tickets to Grand Designs Live; 2-year access to Feel Amazing App (worth £100); Home Improvement & Renovation Show tickets; £50 to spend on chocolate; Harlem Globetrotters tickets; Jesus Christ Superstar tickets + 2 t-shirts; Guardians of the Galaxy goody bag; Birmingham City v Barnsley FC tickets; Marillion tickets; Dancing on Ice tickets; Barnsley FC v Millwall tickets0 -
Hi, I'm aiming for £200 this month again, just about managed last month. Next month will be looking to start reducing if poss.
I'll have to be careful, cos my purse looks healthy at the moment, ds1 finally paid for his phone bill for last month & this month ... in cash...! :j
(Must put that safely out of the way, then I can use that instead of going to the bank)
Walked into town today: £5.42 on fruit & veg (market stall)
£1.20 on bread (bakery)
and.. ermmm... £1.32 on sweets for dh0 -
I've watched the challenge for a few months now and finally decided to give it a go. My budget is £130 for 2 adults and have almost blown the lot already ! Grocery bill came to £95 to day, although we did buy some Christmas presents so I suppose it's not too bad. I bought a lot of fresh vegetables for batch cooking, I've decided to try and cut out ready made meals. As a treat Graham bought us a Chinese take-away last night ( we very rarely have take-aways), what a shock when only a few things came to £30, thats nearly the cost of a weeks worth of food budget! Guess I'll be getting my Chinese cook books out.January spend = £100

I'm not doing too well so far. I got tempted into the local fruit & veg shop today - it has lovely produce but quite expensive. I ended up paying about £7.50 for a pound of grapes, a pound of apricots and a pound of cherries. Yes, the fruit is so much more flavoursome than the stuff from the supermarket but I really shouldn't be spending money like that at the moment. Then I spent a fiver in the butchers, which leaves me only £7.50 to spend on my weekly shop at the supermarket. And I've got lots to get this week.......why is it that all the storecupboard stuff runs out at the same time? Fingers crossed that I manage to pick up some bargains or I might have to 'borrow' some money from next week's pot.0

Did my first big shop on Saturday and it came to just over £68
I know I will have to do another "big shop" for flour and possibly meat in about 2 weeks but I have just about everything sorted. I can't fit anything else in my freezer or cupboards which is why I will have to wait
I've even got a sack of jacket potatoes and 2 "big saver" bottles of cordial sitting on the floor in the kitchen due to lack of space for them :rotfl:
I've managed to get quite a few things together from my "still got to try them out" recipes and I print 14 pages () of recipes from here as well. I've got a Word document on my desktop which has 1 recipe in. As I spot one on the thread I like, I copy and paste to that file then when I've got a pages worth I'll print it outBefore that though I REALLY need to get my recipe cutting sorted out - I hjave way too many and OH keeps informing me of other things he doesn't like (like cooking apples
) I just wish he could give me a comprehensive list :rotfl:

Ooh, BUT, a pound of cherries??!! YUM! It's not YOUR fault you don't have a cherry tree in your garden, else you could have saved a fortune. But as it was, there was no other way! As long as you enjoyed them, it's okay to have an in-season treat, I'm sure!0
