I'm a teacher, and you'd be surprised how many small coins there are that get dropped. I always pick up coins if I see them - and stick it in my drawer at work if that's where I happen to be.Now and again a kid will come to me for money - sponsorship, or because they've forgotten lunch money etc etc - the drawer opens and the pennies/5/10/20ps come into their own!

Over Easter I found 1c on the street in Dublin and automatically put it in my jeans pocket. A few steps further on, one of the street beggars thrust a paper cup at me and asked me for 'spare change'; I don't usually respond, but as I had the coin right there, I reached in my pocket and stuck it in the cup. I hadn't gone more than a step when she tapped me on the shoulder and angrily demanded 'What is this you give me? Eh? Why you give me just this?!!' I hadn't meant to insult her - old habits die hard!! I was surprised, to say the least, but when I told her that she's asked for my spare change, that's what I'd given her, and that if she didn't want it, I'd gladly have it back. When I reached out for it, you should have seen her fist close over it super-fast!

Snap! It amazes me how many people are too 'proud' to pick up a coin. See my sig for our 'score' so far this year!

Found 40p left in the coin return of a phone box I used the other day... hadn't made it to the floor, but I'm still counting it as a 'street find'!

WOW.This response is great..i will take on board your comments about pub carparks at weekends..funnily enough the £1 coin we found was outside our local!!
i find in swimming bath changing rooms people leave thier 20p coins in lockers a lot..got 3 in one visit one day!
dont know what my limit would be before handing it in to police tho..reckon they would keep it and say it was claimed??
afterall if someone lost £1000 cash, did they deserve to have it in first place?? i know i cling to my bag like velcro when i take a lot to bank..doesnt happen much tho!

I was listening to Jonnathon R on radio 2 and some guy said pick pockters stand by pick pocket warning signs and watch the ppl walking past and subconsciously touch the place where their money is.... I wouldn't clutch it too tightly :rotfl:

I get so annoyed with my kids.

If they drop pennies on the floor they leave them and they are really embarrased when I pick them up - and its their own money!!!!!(Well it started off as mine!!!)
