The reason (if I can remember that far back) is that I was concerned about what my friend (whose invitation I responded to) was getting into, as it gave the impression of pyramid selling. I was wary, as had some friends many years ago get involved with a firm selling water softener systems which was most definitely a pyramid system, and once they saw the light, got out quick.

So all in all I was just trying to find out what my friend was getting into, and if it had been dodgy would have done my best to point it out, as it was I heard little more about it from her, so left it at that.

As with all these things there will be good and bad stories to be heard, and on this site you'll read more of the bad than the good. When you get household names like Comet and Currys ripping customers off, most others pale.

Glad it's worked out for some of you, sorry it didn't for others, guess it's just not for me.

I think we need to differentiate here. To the best of my knowledge, Amway don't sell flip charts.

they wanted us to buy a flip chart from them so we could then start going round friends houses asking them to join. we needed the flip chart so we could do their promotions thing.

    a load of old poop.
There's someone in my head, but it's not me

And this was definitely Amway was it?
There were lots of weird stories from the early seventies. People would get invited for all sorts of reasons and end up seeing the Amway Sales and Marketing plan.

Not very professional by todays standards, however, your impression of Amway is dependant upon how you were invited and how the business was positioned to you.

This business is a very effective tool. A tool for generating money but with all tools you need to use them and be trained in the effective use of them.

I respect, that because of how you saw the presentation, you don't rate the business as serious and that is fair enough but how long ago did you see it? You would hardly recognise now.

Just as something to think about......

BT, nPower, Evesham Technology, MBNA, Shop.com, H&H Bancroft, Disney, Carphone Warehouse, Talk Talk and many other businesses have chosen to partner with Amway in the UK via the Amivo web portal. They obviously think that Amway are a serious business.

Whilst the person that showed you the business might have been "a load of old poop" I am sure that you will agree that major corporations, such as the ones that I have listed above, wouldn't partner with a business that was a "load of old poop" would they?

After all they probably know a lot more about business than you or I do and their reputations are worth millions.....just a thought.

Obviously they (the big corporates that you quote above) are as interested in separating 'suckers' from their money for over-priced tatt as Amway is.

Just because a company puts a advert or link on someone else's 'portal' doesn't mean that they recommend that you join up as a new seller on the bottom of a pyramid scheme ....just a thought.

Stick to the facts. Just because you see yourself as a sucker doesn't mean we all are.

What tatt are you referring to exactly.

You obviously don't know what a pyramid scheme is so again stick to facts not incorrect opinions.

All businesses are pyramids, it refers to the structure not the legality.
Really, you are making yourself look foolish.

Check out the DTI, DSA and DMA websites for the facts.
  • Pyramid selling is illegal, period.

Amway isn't pyramid selling (unlike pyramid selling, everybody gets the products at the same price)

I'm sure brand name companies are always looking for new routes to market but wouldn't want to get involved in any illegal scam or dodgy scheme that would bring their reputation into disrepute.

Personally, I have been involved in Amway for a long time but haven't been actively involved for the last few years. It is a genuine legal opportunity to develop a residual based income. It certainly isn't a get rich scheme or an illegal scam.

ROTFL - you imply that Amway's stuff isn't tatt!!!!!!

Vitamins - pennies per thousand to make, sold for markups of > 1000%

Cosmetics - pennies to make, sold for markups of > 1000%

Special magic 'water treatment systems' - what a load of tosh

Special 'cookware' - (frying pans with a lid, ha ha) - stops all the goodness getting out of your food

    Washing powder/Fairy liquid - doh!!

The first 3 items above would definitely be in the list of "Top 6 Items that you can use in MLM selling coz no one knows what they really cost or if they really do what we promise" (the other 3 would be Business/Self-help Tapes and Books, Slimming Products and Website shops).

Lets just look at the magic germ killing water system - we obviously know that this isn't a rip-off because millions of people die every day in the UK from drinking that horribly unsafe poisonous tap water.

    BTW - I have a special magic healing/slimming lotion/pill - they look a lot like a vitamin C tablet - yours for just £86 for a months supply.

YAFT - I am not implying that Amway's products are not Tatt. I am telling you that they are not Tatt.

I don't want to insult you or rant but probably will do one or other so I apologise in advance.

If you spent more time upright rather than rolling on the floor laughing maybe you could gather some evidence.

    Vitamins.

See the Nutrilite website for facts about their sourcing, process, packaging and distribution.

Fact. The largest web based vitamin and mineral distributor.
To quote pennies to produce really shows your ignorance. Where did you get your MBA?
The production cost of a product is a tiny part of the whole price make up of any product.
Do you really think the total cost of producing any FDA approved product is pennies on the thousand?
The quality procedures alone would put off most other producers. In fact it has that is why Nutrilite are the only FDA approved manufacturer of vitamins and minerals. That is why we will still be able to sell them in the UK under the proposed law changes governing supplements.

    Cosmetics.

Oh now you are kidding me.
Artistry is in the top five of quality brands and less in price than them.

Where are your facts. You don't have any.

You are a man, I assume? If so what would you know about cosmetics? If you did know about cosmetic production then you wouldn't have made this comment.

    Special magic water treatment systems.
Yet again where are your facts.
Millions drink bottled water because of lots of reasons. Health and taste are two of them. How much is a litre bottle of water? 50p, £1. take your pick.

The Amway water treatment system provides safe, nutritious, tasty water for pennies per litre. Ut filters and purifies to the highest European Standards not so our mains water.

If you drink tap water then good on you but have you seen tha state of the reservoirs? The French and German owners of our water companies are talking about recycling sewage for our mains water. So You drink your recycled pooh and I will drink my "safe" Amway treated water.

    Special Cookware (with lids)

This time you are right! Probably something that doesn't happen to often.

They are special. Guarenteed for Life. Your life not the pots and pans. Mind you if you carry on drinking your recycled pooh then any old pot or pan will do.

    Washing Powder.

Biodegrable? Maybe not of interest to drinkers of Pooh. Low phosphate. This goes into drinking water. No chlorine bleeches? no fillings or bulking agants? Rust inhibitors? Pure soap? Allergy tested? Dermatologically tested? Concentrated? Low packing? Environmentally sensitive?

All facts. All long before the market jumped on the band wagon. And all price comparable with all the named brands and many of the supermarket brands. Top qualty and economy.

I am having some much fun with you.

Amway have received the United Nations Award for Environmental Stewardship. Who else has?

The products are the best. Not the cheapest all the time. But over all the average consumer is hundreds, if not thousands of pounds better off each year by using the Amway range (at retail price) than using comparable products from the supermarkets. There is a program for authorising consumers to shop at Discounted prices if they so choose, so even more potential for saving.

And who said that the supermarkets were value anyway. Asda have a market strategy so do Tesco. If the competition went all their prices would Sky Rocket. We compete at the Rolls Royce end of the market. Not the Skoda end.

    A question for you?
Why do some people give Amway a bad name and others give them a good name.
Fact. Amway started Network Marketing like McDonalds started franchising.
They are the most well know.
Anyone can start a Networking business and therefore when they do they will point to the most famous and successful in the field - Amway.
When they go bust or turn out to be a scam then what do people remember?
Oh, that business said it was just like Amway so Amway must be bad as well.

Most people don't know the difference between a fact and an opinion.

Unfortunately the majority of people base their decisions upon opinions and not facts.

Some people will believe your opinion and some my facts. That is life. But my facts stack up and your opinions don't.

    I respect your opinion.
But all opinions are like your bum. Everbody has one, your own is the most important one and you don't want to know about anybody elses.

</p>Is that your opinion or a fact (to use your agrument)?

Please don't bother lecturing me about the total supply chain costs for vitamins.

FACT - Amway products are completely non-essential to the purchasers, generally costs pennies to produce and are sold for pounds/dollars and are available elsewhere for less than a quarter of the price. All MLM systems rely on this fact/business model because they need people to not be able to see the differences the products make to them (otherwise they would stop buying them).

Every scammer going can (and does) make claims for vitamins 'live longer/healthy' etc, and then when someone says 'these don't seem to be helping my arthritis (insert disease of choice)';, the flogger says '..just think how bad you would be without our magic pills. Ta da, oh and keep buying for the rest of your life or you'll get poorly.'

Another example - 'our magic water system removes all the impurities that will kill you and your children; it also removes all the pooh that the water companies are pumping into it.' BTW tap water has been shown to be more sterile than many of the bottled waters out there.... Again once bought the people will continue to have to buy or risk death multilation or killing their offspring :)

Magic frying pan - gee I wonder how much they cost, it must be a lot because without it we will not be getting all the nutrients we need. So as Jo Schmo cooks his boil in the bag noodles and curry he can rest assured that the magic pan is removing all the bad e-numbers and adding fibre and goodness. :)

Special washing powder - anyone can claim 'environmentally friendly awards, etc' but why don't they just expain that the amount of washing powder reccommneded is way too much for what is actually required to do the job. It's mostly the mechanical action and water that removes the dirt - really stubborn stains will not come out no matter how much powder you add. In fact if too much is added it's not all removed during the rinse cycle - so the manufacturers doseage is just below the 'clog' level - but sadly a lot of darling housewives/husbands/homemakers just put 'a bit extra in to make sure it cleans it really well'. Doubtless BFS can quote UN and WHO and explain how Scamway is saving the planet with it's magic powder, but a little common sense would do a much better job.

In summary....low mfg cost, extreme sales price, high re-buy/dependency, life enhancing properties claims, appeals to health scares, unprovable effects, ....my what a ringing endorsement for the product range.
