Weight loss the old style way part 2.

  • Hi all, I'm going to subscribe to this thread as I could do with losing a lot of weight, I'm 25 and have been overweight all my life, I can remember even at nursery being one of the biggest in the class and thoughout junior school & high school would every summer holiday start off thinking 'this is the Summer of Salads, I will lose weight and no-one will recognise me when I go back'. Never worked

I've spent a fortune on SW, slimfast, Paul McKennas books, herbal remedies etc etc etc, again none of them worked, I'd lose a few stone but stick more on afterwards. In the past I've suffered from depression, due in no small part to my size, though oddly enough I'm the biggest I've even been and happier than ever - I realise I'm overweight but its no longer the be-all and-end-all, now losing weight is about my health and not about looking good for other people/fitting in with the norm.

Anyway, thats my life story. On to the healthy eating stuff (its NOT a diet!! They've not served me well for the past 20 years!!) I've been eating porridge more often recently, this is moneysaving for me as I'd usually be spending £2 a morning on a bacon and sausage roll, and porridge with honey & raisins is tasty. Also been having HM soups more too, using leftovers & HM stock, naturally!

Basically, the takeaways are out (used to be at least 2-3 a week) and healthy HM is in. I've taken up cooking loads of healthier stuff on my days off, so even when I've finished a 12hr shift, I can reach into the freezer for a curry or stew or chilli etc instead of reaching for the takeaway menu. Anyway, chat over.

    Today -
B - Porridge with honey, raisins & cinnamon
L - HM Pea & Ham soup with toast.
D - Slept thru dinner time

    Tomorrows plan -
    B - Porridge with raisins & cinnamon (out of honey :( )
L - Leftover ham sandwich with cucumber & mustard
D - Chicken & veg curry (leftovers from Sundays chicken)

Will hopefully be signing up to the gym at work over the next few days too, its subsidised to £10 per month and as its in the building there's no excuse. Especially cos of the hours I work there shouldnt be many people around to see me jiggling around. I've got a friend signing up with me so we should be pushing each other to go.

Congrats to all that are on there way already, and good luck to those of us trying!!

    Stacie xx

    Evening ladies and gents.

I've just finished watching that Eat to Save Your Life thing on 4 (and catching up on all the posts, you naughty chatterboxes ;) ). Very interesting and pretty much telling people to do what we're all trying to do. Also interestingly the man who came up as obese on the BMI was actually fitter cardiovasculy (sp?) than the one who was just classed as overweight.

Today I've been relitively good apart from the few chocolates (they're nearly all gone!) and a slice of bday cake (also nearly all gone!)
Brekkie: Golden nuggets with ss milk
Lunch: Leftover HM tuna pasta bake.
Tea: HM Cagun chicken drumsticks with couscous, corn on the cob and mushrooms. Pudding was one small pancake with lemon and sugar.
I got the exercise dvd back out this morning (first time since before christmas) so that was about 40 minutes exercise. Also hoovered all of downstairs, every little counts!

Off to bed now. Early dentists appointment in the morning (like the dentist wasn't bad enough it had to be early morning too!) so not sure if I'll be wanting much to eat tomorrow.
    I'm through accepting limits
    'Cuz someone says they're so
    Some things I cannot change
But till I try, I'll never know!

    Good morning all!

Didn't manage to get on here yesterday andlooks like lots has been happening!

had a really good day eating wise yesterday and weighed myself quickly before bedtime and lookes like I've put on 2 lbs!! Not fair!

Tonight is my official weigh in ie at my friends on the same et of scales in her kitchen so I will let you all know how it goes!

I am finding it harder to 'be good' after Christmas as I got into the habit of eating/drinking what I wanted but I'm sure perseverance and support from you all will help me!

Please keep the thread going as I'm new here but love chatting to like minded people who aren't going on about SW or WW all the time (no disrespect to those that do but I haven't ever done those things properly so don't understand them) and people who are cooking their own stuff and gving me practical and emotional support.

    THANK YOU ALL XXX

 Could someone please tell me if the benefits of HM bread are worth the expense of the machine, & the value of the packets of bread 'mix' you can get? I'm thinking of the ciabatta, or granary, or sunblush tomato type ones....not the 'just add milk' variety:p Mind you, I haven't a clue where I'd put it if I got one!

Yesterday was a pukka day...1 shredded wheat..have you noticed they've taken 2 out of the 18 size pack now:angry: 2 slices granary with scrape of jam [no spread] & copious amounts of tea:p Dinner was 2 pork sausages & unfortunately I got out-voted on the leekie mash, so just plain mash & veg with a spot of onion gravy. Two offspring & Pup shared the semolina pud I made :shhh: don't tell THEM but I didn't put any sugar in it:whistle:while I had a rather sharp orange. I'm actually surprised that the offspring were satisfied with just 2 bangers each...they normally have four or five!

Tonight is spag bol--again I leave out the sugar--so I'm not counting any Jamies just yet, but think it may be a :j week for the :heartsmil challenge...

    Morning everyone

    Well meals for today:-

    allready had my weetabix
Dinner is going to be chicken with veggies and the yorkies i froze the other day- rather than cramming them on to our plates ;)
and lunch is yet to be decided...

Furrypig...don't panic about that 2lb -you weigh heavier in the evening so that won't be a true reading... and you will be amazed how much difference there can be between 2 sets of scales.. So keep possitive -and good luck for later :D

    Alibow-good luck at the dentist....

    Hi and welcom Iamstacie :D
This is the place to be to lose lbs and save £s :T ...hopefully you will get as much help and support on here as i have -they are a great bunch and far better than any class i have been to:D

Well done beemuzed :j ..could you perhaps make your lunch in the evening ? im sure we can come up with some things that can be done the night before, or that don't take long to prep....

Well i have been thinking -i know, not something i do too often :p
I have been doing this weightloss thread for what i counted to be 23 weeks
    • 23 X £5ish for my old class = £115 saved
    • 1 box of bars (at least)each week =2 3X £2 = £46 saved
    • say 1 takeaway per month -aprox £15 X 6 =£90 saved
    • say £2 a week on "goodies" (underestimated im sure) =£46 saved
so that has saved me £297 and that is a VERY conservative estimate and only 6 months worth-before we even get into how much we have saved by not cooking a recipe for 4 and dividing it between 2  that £297 is not far of our mortgage per month -so now thanks to you lovely lot i am technically saving more than enough in a year to pay 2 months mortgage :j .. that is an amazing thought -and wouldn't have been possible without everyone of you and the great hint, tips and support you give :D

Im hoping tomorrows weigh in will be kind and give me the 1lb i want to make my first 4 stone :j ...blooming nora just realised that it means that i have saved roughly £75 per stone lost

Right im off now -going to x stitch :D which will:-
    1. stop me getting bored and heading to the shops
    2. keep my head out of the fridge
    3. and its also a xmas pressy im doing which will save us money too :T
good luck to everyone -especially those weighing in.
Keep up the good work everyone...
hello to anyone not mentioned -oh and Woohoo Frogga hope you had a good day :D

    BigmummaF
If you have a little time, bread is really easy to make by hand (my machine is in the basement now)you could soon knock your own up without mixes.... there are loads of recipes and it would work out much cheaper ;)

I never post on this thread. Actually, I never really post anywhere!

Most of the 3000 views are probably mine; I enjoy the chat, I don't feel at all put off by the length, but I don't seem to feel the need to post. I gain a huge amount from this thread but I'm still very much on my OS (and weight loss) journey and I take inspiration without feeling I have much to contribute. I don't say that for pity - I''m 100% happy with the situation :D

In short, I like this thread as is.

    Hi all,
Didn't sleep well last night so feeling a bit bleurg today.

Breakfast was porridge with frozen berries
Lunch is couscous and chicken salad
Tea is erm - in the slow cooker only I started it off on high and think I've left it on that so might just be a mush by the time we get home at 6pm  So might be sausage-ish and root veg soup instead of casserole!!!

Snacks are an apple and a low fat yoghurt.

Just wanted to add - I tried the daily thread - if you don't post every single day and read everyone's stories every single day you have no real idea what is going on at all. It kind of carries on from the day before and I don't want to go back 5 days to catch up on what events people are asking about. I didn't get on with it personally. Here, if I miss a few days, I don't usually read back, don't even have to read back to the previous day usually as people seem to explain what's going on more.

I also started off being on the Lose weight and Murphy's pie club threads but to be honest a lot of it (not all) was whether you were on SW or WW, the gym class etc and so when this thread started up I realised it was much more applicable to me and how I wanted to go about losing weight, and now this is the only lose weight thread I look at on here (and today it doesn't feel quite the same as it was).

And having lost well over a stone and a half I'd like to say thanks to everyone for helping me keep going - most "diets" I've tried only lasted a few weeks.
