I'm sorry to bring this up again but I'm getting pms from people saying the thread is too big and it should be a daily or weekly one. Can I stress again that this thread is not strictly money saving and as such won't be turned into an alternative daily thread.

Because I don't have the time to deal with lots of pms about this, and because I want to make sure I'm doing my best by everyone, if there are off topic posts, they'll have to be deleted or moved to the daily thread, which is where chatty stuff should be.

And, please do use the daily thread. It's a good place and the one allowance the PTB (Powers That Be) made to us to have a chat thread. PLEASE be considerate of those who can only pop in once every day or two.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

Just to try to explain where I'm coming from here, this isn't a weight loss club. It's here for ALL the money savers who visit the site. There have been fewer than 200 posts on here but over 3 and a half THOUSAND views.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

    Hi everyone,

After slowly believing the realisation that my clothes are getting too tight for me, and then watching some TV programme last night about how to make similar meals with fewer calories, I realised I needed to join this thread!

I'm also up for the lose 7lbs by Valentine's Day challenge too :T

I need to lose two stone in total.

I'm a little hampered in that I'm moving shortly, and am trying to use stuff up - particularly from the freezer. In there I have left a bag of summer fruits, blueberries, HM blueberry muffins, mixed veg, vanilla ice cream, one portion of Christmas turkey, and a bag of minced beef, so there will be a few puddings on the menu to empty the freezer, but I will try to balance this by only having puddings with a very healthy meal, or having beef but no dessert etc etc You must forgive me if I come up with some weird and wonderful combinations, though, as the larder also needs a de-clutter before moving!

    Tomorrow's menu plan:

Breakfast: porridge with sk milk/water and honey
Lunch: houmous salad (houmous, lettuce, spring onions, cuc, cherry toms)
Dinner: turkey korma (portion of leftover Christmas turkey - defrosted, remainder of a jar (sorry :o) of paste, onion) - will brush pan with oil to do onion and do it on low, rather than glugging oil in, and will mix yogurt in with mixture at end instead of cream - will probably sprinkle some desiccated coconut on top instead of almonds as have two bags for some reason, so need to use that up.
Snacks: um, my BIG weakness - particularly savoury - apple, banana, carrot, 2 crackers with peanut butter, handful unsalted nuts
The meals are fairly standard, but the snacks are much more healthy than usual, so although it looks a lot, it will probably still result in weight loss initially - up at 6am, then a 12 hour working day, so if I just miss out the snacks I'll end up eating crisps and chocolate like everyone else in the office...

Will check in again tomorrow

  • Today I have spent : exactly b*gger all on rubbish food. Hooray ! I've been thinking - even if I save one pound a day through buying less junk thats 365 quid a year - that could pay for a holiday ! as the minimum spend " per go " for me on rubbish is 1pkt crisps, 1 small bar/pkt of choc and a can of pepsi max - about -1.30-40 - and if I weaken or am tired and lazy and buy a shop sandwich or a pasty/cheese slice that goes beyond the 3 quid mark quite often, and that used to happem 4-5 times a week.

Again no disrespect to those who participate in the flylady thread but I don't see how this is any less moneysaving. O well :)

Had ham and 2 rice cakes for breakfast, 2 slices toast and ham again for sort of lunch - normally would have had fruit and/or salad veg with them but was bit lazy about that and didn't prep any. Tonight is jacket spud, cottage cheese and salad - cress, cucumber, tomatoes, spring onion, beetroot, apple, kidney beans and sweetcorn - so I think I will catch up on my 5 a day ! supper will probably be using up a punnet of blueberries that need eating up and some grapes. Oh and I had 3 Hobnobs today, so sue me :P

Well done the losers and the tryers, you're ALL winners, well done Frogga for swerving round that binge !

    Hi folks
Good day today. Used up my leftover pate for lunch so that was good - all gone now and lasted 4 days whereas before 'moderation' it would have lasted 2, so I am totally with your MrsM in so far as I can see my portion control saving me money in the long term as i will be eating less and therefore spending less and getting healthier.

    Tomorrow the plan is for:
    Breakfast: Fruit and Fibre
    snack: banana
    lunch: egg mayo sandwiches, grapes
dinner: lamb steaks, mashed potato and veg

I have to admit I am now a tad confused as to what we are allowed and not allowed to post on here now, but I hope everyone is doing okay.

For those having binges - enjoy it, finish it, and begin again tomorrow - please do not beat yourself up about it - a lifetime of eating a certain way isn't going to change overnight. Binging one in three days and then the next time its one in four days and one in five so on and so forth is still good progress, baby steps are good and you are more likely to stick with the changes.

    Cream eggs - YUK:silenced: Curly wurlys - YUK :silenced: The crisps.....now that's different!!! Crisps I like :D

I've been ok today (so far) Just had a yummy tea - Cauldron sausage, baked sweet potato topped with garlic and herb philly light and mushrooms and broccolli.:T I've actually craved broccolli today  I must be sickening for something:rotfl:

Weight loss classes - I've been to them all I think! I'd go to the class then call at the chippy or get a pizza on the way home:rolleyes: I can't 'do' diets any more though, I'd rather try to eat healthy meals and try to stop when I'm full a la PMK.
No fresh bread in the house so hopefully I'll be good tonight!

    See you tomorrow ladies:A

With all due respect, because I think it is out of order to PM you singly about this...

It IS money saving.. think of all the 'class fee's everyone is saving by being here and the support they are getting and the savings made from not buying 'special' food.. it is massively moneysaving.. and some off topic posts are very relevant to the ongoing and underlying.. there needs to be a 'relationship' thing going on here in order to support properly so everyone can do their ebst.

I hate the 'daily thread' it is rather clique-ish.. if you don't post on there 2000 times a day every day noone even acknowledges your post which is naff.. I think I posted there a dozen times.. got stressed with being 'out of it' as none of the 'in jokes' were explained and are VERY isolating to those who aren't in the know.

I'm going back to my friends.. right now.. my gosh.. that was almost a flounce!! lol

And.. back on topic.. before I forget.. lol..

Dinner was.. those sausages that had legs in the fridge.. the new potatoes cooked yesterday warmed up.. and the slightly fluffy mushrooms from the frideg..

I was quite restrained and didn't buy sweets when I REALLY wanted to earlier.. and have taken to leaving my purse at home so even if I am tempted I am unable to buy the lard.

I have also invested in a couple more DVD's.. owt for a larf!!.. It won't be an earthquake.. it'll just be me stimmying by truffles!!

    Hi everyone,

I understand what many of you are saying about the flylady thread. I too don’t see it as more (or less) moneysaving than losing weight. They can both be moneysaving topics.

However, flylady, cleaning and decluttering are all topics that are specific to the Old Style board, whereas losing weight is not. There are already a number of lose weight threads available to everyone who uses MSE, but Old Stylers wanted one on this board and we have done our best to accommodate that.

One proviso was that the Lose Weight the Old Style way thread was to be specific to Old Style weight loss. Lately many posts have been drifting off the topic of losing weight. While we understand that it’s impossible not to chat a bit, what we are asking is that everyone tries their best to keep posts on the topic of losing weight with an Old Style slant.

As Gingham has already said, some people are being put off using the thread because they are having difficulty finding information amongst the chatty posts. So if anyone wants to chat about what’s going on in their life that is not related to OS weight loss, then the place to do that on Old Style is the daily thread where you’ll be given a warm welcome, or start a new thread in the MoneySavers Arms.

We really would appreciate your co-operation with this.

    Thanks,

    Pink
