The porridge continues - maybe I'll get to like it some day, but not yet! Had HM soup for lunch plus a ryvita. Supper was tuna, potatoes, leeks and carrots. Managed some fruit during the day too. The chocs on the shelf above my head are screaming at me, and I'm so tempted, but I know it'll be the slippery slope if I do. Help!!!Resolution:
Think twice before spending anything!0 -
Just heard back from Gingham about having a weekly weight loss thread. Unfortunatly it's a "no go" as it is not strictly a money saving thread. Never mind it's not Ginghams fault so better not moan at her please
Thanks ever so much Gingham for trying, its appreciated :T
I do take issue with whoever in TPTB said it's not strictly a money saving thread ? Isn't a huge part of the core of the thread to save money by being OS, frugal and reducing waste by not buying special slimmers' ready meals/alleged " good for you " processed food, by not joining up with expensive weight loss clubs and programmes and buying even more expensive " meal replacement " rubbish ? by rediscovering old fashioned food preparation and lower fat/sugar meals to help be healthier/lose weight, and walking/gardening/housework etc as an alternative to costly gyms ?
What do we need to do, somehow demonstrate physically that we are saving money by trying to lose weight OS style ? do we need to start talking more about money saved rather than calories lost ? if that's the case then I'll start off by saying I didn't spend a thing today on crisps and chocolate etc so thats about 3 quid saved for starters !" Baggy, and a bit loose at the seams.. "~ November 8th 2008. Now totally DEBT FREE !~0 -
OOOOHHHH Orpheus...
Im loving that verse :j ..like you i always called it "pigging out" too.. never became an actual "binge eater" as such.. just ate too much and as soon as i had 1 item that was on the "bad" list -that was my queue to throw in the towel... at long last and after much soul searching i have No "bad or good" stuff-just moderation and do you know what ? its working a treat -fingers crossed it continues
You really must post more often you know

Good evening all
Good day for me today, weigh-in tomorrow morning, watch this space!
Cheerfulness, first of all happy anniversary even if a bit late, and also a word of comfort if you have binged a bit, so what, we all get there at times, forgive yourself and move on.
Orpheus, beautiful words, thanks for that!
Taplady, PMd you lentil soup recipe but MaisieM gave a much more sophisticated recipe, I am going to try that!
MaisieM, my version is quite boring, I sort of boil up all ingredients and that's that, and I add pasta and grated parmesan, I suppose mine is more the Italian version and yours is more a middle-eastern version, I had lentil soup with lemon juice once in a Turkish restaurant and it was lovely!
Frogga, glad you managed to stave off the binge, well done, stay focused my friend, you are an inspiration to us all!
Bemused, you could try to top your porridge with a mix of toasted seeds, take a tsp of each: sesame, pumpkin, sunflower, hemp seeds and lightly toast them in a dry pan on a medium flame, stirring, when they smell a little like popcorn take off the fire and top porridge. If you are ok with it, add a tbsp maple syrup - DIVINE! Anyone would like porridge made this way, believe me!
Well done to all losers, the thread is so long now that I really don't manage to remember everyone, sorry for that!
Foodwise:
Breakfast: 2 dry fried eggs, baked beans, 2 ryvita
Snack: grapes
Lunch: pasta with tomato and spinach
Snack: more grapes, 1/2 ryvita
Dinner: Roast sweet potatoes with veg sausages, cabbage with lemon and oil (1 tsp), sauteed carrots (1 tsp oil, water, sage). Cherry compote with 2 tbsps yoghurt.
Goodness it is this late again? Gotta go catch beauty sleep, good night all
Love

Hi All,
An extra hello as I am up again after retiring to bed with a headache/feeling sick/migrainey thing around 7pm. I'd had a good day and managed to fit in a 50 min walk along the beach in the sunshine as well as sticking to black coffees all day when suddenly I started feeling awful. Anyhow, 5 hours sleep and a couple of strong painkillers and I feel fine again. I just hope I can sleep when I return to bed.
I've had a total no-spend day which is very money saving and if I go down to black coffee from the skimmed milk ones I've been drinking, then not only will I be saving calories but also a fortune in buying milk.

Morning Peeps,
Thanks for the encouragement yesterday. I got through it and didn't do anythingI know each day will be easier than the previous one as I wont want to have wasted all that effort for nothing. Orphy, thanks for writing that little ditty :A I will copy it out and keep it on me at all times , I think it was very apt.
Hi MrsM ~ hope you are OK. I wish I could do the "all in moderation" thing. If I get a taste of the sweet stuff it triggers a bingeI thinkI'm better off staying away from it. But perhaps that is why I binge, because I've gone without
I don't know.

Morning frogga.... morning everyone
I know what you mean about moderation frogga..when i used to sit in WW being told "you can eat anything -in moderation" i always used to think.."if we could do bl**dy moderation you would be out of business" :rotfl: . But i have learnt that by banning a food i instantly find it more attractive - the minute im told or think "you can't have ****" i want 2.... so now if i want something i have it..and because of that i don't want it often
. But if i have something, i have no negative feelings about it at all... i want it, i have it, enjoy it and im done
I really wish i could say what happened to turn my way of thinking around .... but i really don't know..its almost like i have been reprogrammed.... the only thing i can think of is that i listened to the paul mckenna CD a few times before i even began to try and lose weight... i don't know if that had an effect.. but i think it migh have -as when i saw his programme on the TV over xmas and he was on about his "rules" for weight loss ..i thought "blooming heck thats exactly what i do"
well back to normal...
I have had a bath and washed my hair allready,- brekkie will be weetabix,
- dinner is chicken salad with potatoes
- and im not sure about lunch yet... probably crisp breads and low fat cream cheese
oh and the cobs were a hit -hubby "tried" 1 last night and loved them -and i pinched a bite and it was mmmmmmm:p -so at least i got 7 in the freezer and 2 he has taken today... oh and 6 yorkies made it in too -that will come in handy im sure
Pigpen :T on resisting lots of birthday goodies..hope DS had a good time
Rosewood -hope you are feeling better when you get up this morning... Do you think the black coffee might have caused the head ache? just wondered if it might be a shock to your system
Caterina.... have my pinkies crossed for your weigh in... hope it goes well for you
well i will get off and get my brekkie and a cuppa... hope you all have a great day..lots of possitive thoughts and optomism this morning i think....
take care everyone-and talk to you all later-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Good girl Frogga....I have been dieting for 50 years and I'm still fat, so do not despair!
Oh M-M I know exactly what you mean - can't claim 50 though a good 40 years.
Right I am back and up for the 7lb by 14th February challenge. Friends go home tomorrow and I had set myself a personal 2lb a week while out here and not got going yet. Hoping for 14lb off before I return on the 1st March.
Can't quite believe how popular this thread is 8 pages in less than 4 days.
There is plenty of fresh fish and fruit and vegetables out here so will "pig" on them. My biggest problem is I don't binge or eat loads of the wrong things, I do have a sweet tooth and have to control that (no more desserts), and obviously will have to watch the portion sizes too, avoid cheese, I had cut wine/any alcohol down to not a lot and will have to make that none. DH and I will go for a 1-1.5 hours walk a day too.
I love porridge but only if served with golden syrup and cream:o , so will give it a miss as normal.
