Pixmania problems - a warning

Hi, I've had exactly the same letter from "first collect" and I came to the conclusion it had to be a scam as they ask for my credit card details by email! I also bought a canon camera off an ebay seller 3 years ago and have the paypal receipt to prove it.
At the moment I am ignoring all letters - the last was very aggressive saying the the interest and fees are adding up due to my non-payment and court action is imminent if I do not send them my details within 5 working days. I do feel for some people though, as you would get scared into paying by a threatening letter such as this - I'm not sure its matter for the police but Im sure somebody should be informed of this dodgy company!
any advice or should I just keep ignoring them?0 -
Hi fileep,
Your letters sound pretty identical to mine, especially the last one (they claimed they had sent 3 but I only received 2).
I phoned Consumer Direct and had quite a long chat with them so they now have some details on file. She suggested that the only way I could approach knowing whether there was any genuine intent was to respond. I wrote them a letter, posted it on Saturday as recorded delivery, so it has to be signed for. If the address exists it should have been received today, tomorrow at the latest. She suggested I state that I did not owe money and that I could provide proof if required. Also to ask them to provide proof of the debt within a set timeframe (I chose 3 weeks, somewhat arbritrarily - but compared to their demands, very generous).
I'm glad to hear that you too thought the means of communication they requested sounded fraudulent. I would hope this will go away as we all have clear consciences and it certainly sounds like fraud to me. Let me know if anything further happens, it's useful to know of the spread of the fraud / misinformation to help us get a clue of what's going on.
Good luck.0 -

I was about to order a camcorder from Pixmania but then spotted it was being sold by Simply Electronics, and there was a link to all SE products on the Pixmania site. This relationship worries me.
There are plenty of horror stories about Simply Electronics on the net, but what I do know first hand is that when I asked Sigma UK if they could repair a faulty lens under guarantee, they said they would be happy to - except that the Simply Electronics guarantee is not valid in the uk as the goods are not legally imported, ie they are grey imports. Simply Electronics have to send goods back to Hong Kong for repair and it's hard to see that there wouldn't be the same potential problems if ordered through Pixmania.0 -

They operate a Marketplace just like Amazon. So not all products come from Pixmania.0 -
NEVER NEVER NEVER use Pixmania. They take money without delivering goods. In my case they took money, did not deliver and when I asked why they said they needed proof of who I was - by sending them a copy of my passport!
If goods do arrive, the manuals are often in French and if you want to sue the company you have to make a claim in a French Court!0 -
Hey,
Ive recently embarked on a fantstic journey with this awful company. Here is the story:
I ordered two Archos 101's from Pixmania at £190 each plus shipping.
I noticed a lot of people ordered from them, and that eventually it went out of stock online.
People started to get emails(including myself) that they had run out of stock temporarily.
So I contacted them, and asked what was going on with my order. They told me that it was packaged and ready to be shipped. Awesome! No...
I then receieved another email stating that they had a delay in stock delivery, and mine would be back in stock a week later and then be sent out.
I waited, and then sent an email asking for an update. I was told that they had no stock, and were not sure when it would come back in stock. SO I was able to request a refund if I wanted. NO. I want the product, at the price I bought it. So I told them this, and that I did not want the order cancelled. (This is just a classic "woops we messed up. lets force them to cancel and we can then place the item back in stock at a higher price").
After another angry email I sent to them telling them I am getting fed up, and that their website has since been updated to "stock back in 5/01/2011", i got another reply.
This reply stated that they are permantly out of stock of this item, and they will not be getting any more in and will cancel my order.
Now, of course this is b** ***t. The website states they have stock coming in on the 5th, so they are not "permanently out of stock"!!!
Its a crazy ride im going through, full of lie after lie. I was wondering if anyone knew my grounds on this? In short:
1. They have my money
2. They told me it was ready to be sent
3. They have lied on more than one occasion about stock levels
4. They are cancelling my order on what seems to be false grounds.
Any help on this one?
Thanks,
Adam0 -

Certainly warned me off of PIXMANIA...I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.0 -

Sounds about the norm for Pixmania, it took me nearly five months to get an eventual full refund from them for faulty goods, that was after countless emails and them twice offering to refund me less than the amount owed.
I would never ever use Pixmania again.0
