  • Mooloo sorry things are strained moneywise that really sounds like a pressure.

Glad the move is over though and you can soon get some much needed you time.

As for not being able to reach up to the washing line, would a maiden help? You could put it outside and sit on a chair to hang the washing on it?

Have a nice time with in Oxford you deserve it.

Hi, KM. I think I am the person that lost a shilling and found a penny?
When trying to get a chair into my cottage, I found a housing benefit cheque down the side of it. Just as well we did, as it was for £214! One of the twins must have taken the post into the frontroom, and it was between the seat and the cushion!. As the chair wouldnt go in the cottage door ways we decided to take it to the tip.! Very nearly could have been a disaster.!!!
But it is now safely banked!. (I did wonder why the council hadnt sent me one, but I was so busy trying to sort things out that I hadnt double checked it!).

What is a Maiden? Is it a kind of step then? Excuse my ignorance, but I certainly need to get various gadgets to help me now!

Gosh where has the time gone? I cannot believe that its gone so fast?
Mind you I think that the amount of ups and downs we have been through has strengthened us. I wonder sometimes how BF puts up with all the emotional rubbish that I carry around with me. And the constant moving. This is move no 19 since 1979. Before that parents were in the RAF and we moved often enough, most years in my life then too.
    One day I will settle??????/:o
We had a BBQ here for BF's sons 21st, and had friends and Neighbours around, so that was really our celebration. We exchanged cards this morning, and BF has brought me a minature rose bush for my garden!. I felt a bit guildty that I hadn't had time to get anything.
I was hoping to have cooked a meal together later, but he has said he wont want much when he gets back from the sailing club!. (He is on duty rosta today, so had to go.). I could have gone home, but I decided that I would stay anyway. Have a restful evening with my book. A quick go on the computer is a bonus as all the kids have also gone out.

Hi Mooloo, hope you are feeling better. A maiden is an indoor clothes line like this:

You probably know it as a clothes horse or indoor washing line, lol. Mooloo, are you aware there is a social tariff for those on low incomes where your gas/electricity is concerned?

I hope you get much deserved peace and quiet once the girls are settled. Congrats on your 5 year anniversary too!

Mooloo, what about something like this for your washing:
    http://www.mrspeggshandyline.co.uk/
They are quite expensive though at £60 for the small or £70 for the large.

You could just get a few of these instead, much cheaper at £3.91:

I've got an airer similar to this but I got mine from Lidl a couple of years ago for about £15:

You can get a full load of washing on it and it's long enough for towels & sheets.

Never heard it called a 'maiden' before, I've always known them just as clothes airers.

I have a number of different shapes and sizes, but the easiest one for moving around is this one from IKEA, as long as you buy the optional casters.

It folds quickly and easily, even with clothes on, so it's brilliant for hauling inside quickly if it comes on to rain.

When it's windy, I have to put half a brick on base to stop it blowing round the garden.

But you don't have to use all its levels, so on a 'bad' day you could sit down and just use the three lower ones.

I'd never heard them being called a "maiden" either until I joined MSE, I've always known them as a "clothes horse".

Thanks everyone. Showed my ignorance a bit there!. I do have a couple of airers, that belong to the twins really, but they havent got the room for them. So I could use them outside, and save up my pennies for one of my own.!
The Ikea ones look like a good idea.
The american airer, looks good, but I would still have problems reaching it on a bad day. But well worth thinking about. The only problem here is that my garden is not enclosed and its raised at an angle so standing something up out there could be a difficulty. I will experiment. Thankyou everyone for the links etc.
I have trouble with my computer and its not always letting me on to the links? Oops Google has a problem is a common occurrance!.
Well I got the final gas and electric bill for the house, worse then I thought, They total £1,622.36!!!!! I am aghast.
I have been trying to get the help from NPower, but they told me I didnt qualify for thier schemes, dispite earlier in the year they told me I was.
But I will start again. And keep on at them.
This is the only large debt that I have. I was so proud that I had managed to climb out of the problems surrounding my Bankruptcy but didnt reckon that the bills would be so high? My kids must have every gadget in the place on 24seven. The heating must have been on full blast too!. How come I didnt notice?
Time for me to go and get ready to collect DS after his Exams today. Seems like forever since I saw him, even though it was only Sunday!

    Hi Mooloo,

Forgive my bluntness but why do you have to pay for the electricity bill? If your daughters were there as well they should have been contributing to the bills (otherwise they will get a nasty shock when they have their own bills to pay) or did they keep all their own money?

Could they contribute to the repayment?

When you contact NPower they will say it needs to be cleared in 3 or 6 months, if you can't afford it make an offer that you can afford. They will refuse this but pay it anyway and then the account will be sent to a debt agency (they try to threaten this like it's scary!!) who can accept offers over longer peiods.

    EE

P.S I am assuming that the bill is correct?!?
