Afternoon everyone, I never seem to get anything done these days, LOL, spent all day on MSE arguing about Paypal and eBay. oops. My husband came home from work - stopping through to use the loo - and so I had to pretend I had been ironing all day. NOW I have to get something done else he will know I've done diddly squat all day. :rotfl:
I've had a letter from the council - I've got another 2 points for being on the list for another year and 10 points for having 'limited means'. So now we have 115 points.
LOL, yes, this is me, my life is filed, I have the file next to me with everything in it that I have about Ryan and housing, everything I can file gets filed. And the files are in a file. It's true. :rotfl:
J, the councillor has been rubbish, he has not even returned my calls - I will be talking to he MP about him though when we meet tomorrow. he might even be there to get egg on his face some more. The MP reckoned he had 'powers'over housing as he is the housing person for this area. Oh yeah, righto!! I'll be putting him in his place too as he does seem pretty useless, the only person who has seemed to get anything done has been the MP really. I will ask about haing someone to come with us though, tht would be interesting. never thought of that before.
I found out where the hostel is so going to go and have a drive over next week and have a snoop around to see what I can see, maybe see if I can get in. It'll be a 10-15 minute drive each day to get the kids to school from there. I will go have a look though.
I can't believe that today is Wednesday already - where has this week gone?? Better get some housework done I supposed.
Gina, the office is quite a distance but last week I had to go to the hospital so i dropped them in, this is how we got the exra 10 points. however, he was earning less back in November when the first lot went in and they have only just decided now we are low income. He got a 2.5% wage rise and a 90p child benefit rise since then!!0 -
Everytime i've been into the council offices (esp the housing) ive seen people that are shouting their mouths off being pandered to and given exactly what they want (the best example was seeing someone who'd just been housed yelling that they had no money for the electric meter and being given £20, only to see them 20 mins later coming out of a McD's with bags of ''food''). What can i learn from this?? I'll let you draw your own conclusions.
(i'd just like to add that i personally could never loose my temper this way to anyone- i've worked in retail all my working life so i know what is like to be screamed at, sworn at, threatened and even spat at)0 -
BM, when you see the MP tomorrow... ask what you have to do in relation to ensuring the children continue in their education with no disruption for your son should the hostel be the accom that you have to live in in the short/mid term. And of course if any of that arranging is your homelessness officers responsibility...
I know some councils encourage people to move the childrens schools... This is not possible for your little lad and the cost of you getting him there and back would be costly..
Will be thinking and willing a good property in a good area within your point limit and with no one else with higher priority tomorrow..0 -
MOrning all, feeling very strange, not really nervous about it all, probably because I've gotten so cross about it. Everyone I have told (I do not hide this from people and I tell them how things are going) says 'you've not been offered anything have you' so hopefully the MP will see the same way.
I've got a lot of stuff ready for eBay listing day - sold my market stall, they called and coming to collect tomorrow cash so that is £175 and will pay for our day out at the weekend. We are having odd days as we will not be able to get away. Sounds daft but a week away can make all the difference in missing a place tht comes up.
My mum called yesterday and I said we was not here Saturday (my nan is coming down) and she asked why, I said going for a day out as the kids will not get a holiday, are you not going on the £9.50 sun holiday then? No mum, thing is we ight get 2 days notice to leave the house, we are going to be living in a hostel how can we go on holiday. Oh yes, I suppose!!
Anyway, off to sort some more stuff for eBay - it is all I have done for 2 days now, kind of mice to be busy at the moment, I have to admit.
Thanks for the message Gina, yes, I have ben trying to follow this up called into Children and Families at the CC but they have not called me back yet. I know I read somewhere that they fund school travel for children in temporary accomodation but I cannot find it. I know that the support workers at the hostel are very god and help you apply for HB and things like that so I figured that I could chase it up with them. I am hoping that we get the other side of half term before we have to leave which gives me just 5-6 weeks of going back and forth 3 times a day, then it will be twice a day. I try and put things into perspective really, a few of the kids inthe school come from 10 miles away so it will not be a problem at all, just that I'll have a 10 minute drive rather than a 10 minute walk. I did not think of asking the MP about this though so that is a good idea. I searched and wearched the website yesterday for nearly 2 hours but I KNOW I saw it on the internet somewhere!!
Mummy Hol, yes I am like you I've worked in retail, I could not imagine being like that to someones face, even if I dislike someone I would always be nice if I had to encounter them - being aggressive and being assertive are 2 different kettles of fish.
I totally forgot about the list unti i was walking back from school. I thought, ooh, it's Thursday!! I think I am so focused onto going to the hostel now that somewhere being available does not even figure in our plans at all. I only just realised that yesterday, everything is organised for us being in the hostel for 6 months so I guess anything else would be an added bonus!! Of course, the thought of not having any housework to do for 6 months...... :T0 -

Agree with you re:hand delivery and request for signed receipt, but small correction - online trackable RD adds 72p to letter cost. You are thinking of Special delivery, I suspect.
bm - you are doing all the right things and you are certainly right about staying close to home during the time when an offer just could come.
We all know how Mr Sod has a propensity for making such Laws...........
I can add little to what others are saying so well - all the strength you show emblazons and dignifies what humankind can be, and with unquenchable spirit.
That especially holds true just when you are thinking you are not doing so well, bm.

Does your local council not have a max time for families to be in the hostel. Here is max 12 weeks but they have targets which aim to get people out in 6 weeks. (obviously some people do end up there longer than 12 weeks but thats their set targets). Its sounds terrible that you might be in there 6months!!0

Sending you lots of good vibes for your meeting with MP. Hope your day has some sunshine.
Haven't forgotten about DVD - still can't get recorder set up properly! Not normally technologically (is that even a word?) challenged, but this is defeating me!
Lots of love

The actual date for the bailiff has just arrived.... 23rd May so 3 weeks tomorrow. I feel much better than I did when the letter came in the week. The council told us to apply for a stay but the letter states that we cannot use the reason that we have nowhere else to go. So I am a bit puzzled as to what reason to use. I will call her tomorrow and let her know that we have the date and ask her what we can put on the form. Then we will have to go up to the court on Tuesday and see what they say.
Thanks for the messages, it helps having the kids with us as I do not want them to see this is a bad thing else they will be scared and that is the last thing we want.
Kind of nice to know that this fiasco will be over very soon now and that we have set date - even though it is not very long.
PS. I found we can take out TV (subject to having a licence - which we do), DVD player, the laptops and the Wii to the hostel. LOL!!
PPS. Axe, those kind of things scare me ha ha!! I guess this means we will be missing the end of Lost!! We can watch it in the internet so don't worry too much, we are going to get one of the 'Keys' from O2 or something.0 -
Ooooh, do you think I could ask for a stay on accounts that the rent is paid and up to date until 2nd June?? Any thoughts??0
