POOKY - what a brilliant result re your credit card! Good old Martin! He is slowly but surely saving us all a fortune and getting money back for us. Since I joined here I've had over £2000 refunded by the bank for my DH's accounts, £40 back from the building society we had our last mortgage with for over-charged exit fees, and tons of advice on making savings, a fair few freebies and - well, it goes on and on! Still yet to win a competition but I don't do them often enough - that will be changing soon! Oh, by the way - is there a link to that sewing pattern or could you post the name of the thread, please? My aprons - I like the full-size ones with the bib (I'm very messy in the kitchen!) are 28.5 inches (72cms) and they come to just above my knees. I'm 5'4" tall if that's any help. I have one half-size one which is 19.5 (49cms) inches long.
Thanks for the apron measurements - will make a note of those. The bag thread is http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=670839.
Have made 3 more bags this morning for DD's friends - made them smaller than the pattern says and will fill them with bits and bobs for birthdays/christmas pressies. Also made DD1 a pair of pj's from an old pair of my pj bottoms and a top of mine that shrunk and has been sitting in the "looks useful" pile - she's grown so none of hers are long enough in the arm or leg.....these should do her nicely (left plenty of leg length to turn down) and even trimmed the top with the bottoms fabric to make them co-ordinate!
Bathrooms been cleaned - bed's remade and I've just finished the last of this weeks batch of HM rolls - sliced and toasted with lots of butter and marmite - yum!
PP - Sorry to hear you've been feeling bad again - can't belive they got the levels so wrong
Tru - Sorry to hear about Miss Tru - hope she's feeling better soon."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Congrats Nix!! Well, I just ironed one leg of a pair of trousers and it has absolutely exhausted me! Have to sit down and have a cup of tea again nowWe must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0

Pink-winged wrote: »Hi Kippers,
I know what you mean, most of my friends work during the day, but thankfully I have a lovely 'old style' sister who lives far away but we manage to have a natter about old style stuff on the phone most days.
As mary has mentioned there is a Depression Support Thread which I think helps a lot of people on MSE.
The very best place to get help and support here on Old Style is the daily thread, where I have been lucky enough to make some really good friends. I'll add your thread to it and I'm sure you'll get lots of friendly replies.

Do you have a secret sister I don't know about?
(just thought I'd say it before someone else does.
Congratulations NIx :beer:0 -
Hi Kippers
Yes, I feel lonely sometimes and do understand what you mean. I live in England (an exiled Scot), have done for 15 years, but extended family in north Scotland (cousins), sister lives abroad, son at uni in Scotland, daughter coming home next week from Australia
and then prob going back up to edinburgh. So....'my' family is scattered, although OH's are nearer and my stepsons come to stay a lot. Yes, families are smaller and more widely dispersed. Having said that I get lonely, I am also a bit of a hermit when i come in from work. I love working with people and then having quiet time at home. But I've been off work for a couple of months now, although i hope to go back soon....so I'm probably missing humans (have 2 dogs).
Hope you enjoy your time in here. It has lifted my spirits since finding it not very long ago.

Hello all:D
Not posted for a day or so, nothing much to say. I've been sooooo tired. I'm not sleeping atm which is unusual for me. It was always said I could sleep anywhere, anytime:o For the last few days I just can't get off for hours, then come 4am or 5am I could sleep for Britain:rolleyes:
Today I decided to go up to John Lewis in Oxford Street. They used to have the most lovely fabric department along with every crafting implement you can think of. Not any more they don't! I was really disappointed with the poor excuse for a haberdashery dept they have. Hardly a fabric to be seen, very limited yarns, and hardly anything for sewing or quilting etc. I suppose it has been a few years since I last went. Goodness my small JL at Bluewater is better:rotfl: I was determined not to come home empty handed, so I've got cotton for a dishcloth, yarn and needles for some socks, and some other threads I needed. Forgot to take the fabrics I needed to match for the threads, but guessed, and I couldn't have been closer:j
Since I've been back I've made a huge vat of chili, which is bubbling away, and put the BM on:D (I've waited so long to do the BM bit like the rest of you:rotfl: Still loving my Panny!)
Congrats to Nix and OH on setting the date! You've plenty of time to refine your winemaking talents, and if you need an official taster, well I'm sure I could sacrifice myself;)
((((hugs))))) to all that want them.
Don't work too hard Haribo, and I too wondered if Pink had another sister:p
Best be off,
CMx
Meant to say, I've watched my recording of yesterday's show. Well done lillibet, and Caterina I saw you loads of times!!!!!You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -
Mary, I broke a toe 6 months ago, and it never healed, so I ended up having it off last Friday.
I like the lemon + honey even if I dont' have a cold!
DH is making oatmeal raisin cookies right now, following a recipe in a cookbook; I just chuck ingredients into the bowl, I've made so many, but he ahs to have a recipe, bless.
Going to have him make a onion + sausage hotpot-type dish for dinner, I'll let you know how it turned out.0
