  • Spose i'm not a nice person, (only read the first and last post) but if you want to get straight theres one obvious simple easy answer.

    Ditch the bird.
  • You're a lucky guy mate. But I hope your windfall doesn't make you relax and keep spending the dough.

If I was you, I would use the opportunity of earning a relatively decent wage and having few compulsary outgoings to SAVE for your future, whether that includes your current girlfriend or not.

This may sound selfish but you have to look after number one.

Well, they dont agree with her, they think she has done somthing, and her parents hate me because of my parents...

Then speak to them if you haven't done anything then tell them. Why do they hate your parents? did they used to be friends or something

Nice one on getting sorted. Still, I think at 19 you should be able to get respect from your parents about your relationship, whether they like your gf and her family or not. I've been withy my bf 2 years, and wouldn't dream of him paying my phone bill unless I was very desperate. And I went through Uni with no support from my parents or anyone else, like so many others do. So she shouldn't need you paying her bills, like so many have said on here. Good luck with it!

  • hi doe hill. You have a great salary for the age of 19. Its took me 22 years to earn £1040. Change the mobile to pay as you go and text her. Try to visit once a month rather than every weekend.
You are 19 and entitled to have a girlfriend. ring the company you owe money to and agree to a minimum payment a month. Look at other places to park for cheaper rates and shop around for you car insurance etc. as for your parents you need to tell them you are an adult and responsible for your own actions. If they make you feel uncomfortable than I would seriously think about getting a place of your own.

    You are doing ok.

Excellent news. Please, please, please keep this thread somewhere you can refer back to every now and again, just so you can review your situation financially - see this as a fantastic opportunity to not only clear the debt with the money from your Dad, but also have a personalised 'keep your finances in check' strategy!

Stick around MSE - you'll find tonnes of other ways to save money on the other boards - particularly with regards to hotel accommodation and travel.

I am pleased to read about your newly found bank account - hopefully it will mean that you are debt free for the moment....

however, I echo what others have said - please cut your spending at the moment as it is unsustainable at this level.

If you really love this gril the best thing you can do is provide for a bright future for your self. Put the money you save into a savings account - yes spent some on treats, but save up for the future as well.

    Good luck x

I am going to say something which others will probably hate me for.

I can't see this guy changing his ways & he probably won't be back on here again. The bank account was too easy for him to get himself sorted with his credit card that he will prob still keep the card & still spend on it. He still has paypal, ebay and that other bank to pay for.

he will prob think 'great I've got it sorted' and not thing about this happening again.

What happens if his parents ask about the money, want to see him use it for something.

Will he really tell his parents about his debt & girlfriend ?

Only time will tell & I hope I am wrong in thinking this.
  • I think you have to be honest with your girlfriend and tell her you cant afford all these visits and mobile calls and whatnot. Are you worried about how she will view you , its not an an attractive trait in a man ton ot have money , it sounds like you cant face up to this , if you continue with this attitude you will end up thousands and thousands in debt, you need to look at your outgoings and decide how much you need to pay those stupid credit cards , CUT THEM UP NOW!!!
Its not sufficient to just pay the minimum payments , otherwise you will end up paying thousands , at the end of the day you can only spend what you have , I know its tough medicine I prescribe but , hell , five grands not the end of the world.
You have all the hallmarks of a future bankrupt , you need to change now , you need to nip this in the bud
    good luck
