PAYG refers to the call plan only , there are no PAYG broadband deals , PAYG when it comes to telephony is a little misleading in that you still pay a monthly charge to have a telephone facility added , so a telephone number allocated, incoming calls , access to 999 etc , but any outgoing calls are charged for on a PAYG basis , but if you don’t make any chargeable outgoing calls you still pay for the telephone service in addition to the broadband fee , that’s unless you go for someone like Sky where you get a phone service included on a PAYG basis even if you don’t want it , but TBF , their price is competitive so even though you can’t remove telephony to save a few more ££ like you can with some providers .

I'm not looking for "best" price, where did you get that. I'm looking to not be tied into a long term contract for mum to move to a care home a month later.

I stated in first post to read between the lines, you clearly failed.

Read my final sentence in post one, you either didn't or it went over your head.

If you want the absolute minimum tie in , so not even a 12 month minimum term , you will struggle, there once were companies that had no minimum term , you joined initially on a 30 days rolling ‘contract’ , so that’s still a commitment, but you pay the installation fee upfront , you pay for the equipment to be provided and you pay more each month you are a customer than you would with a company that has minimum terms ,

Its pretty clear why , a company that offers 24 month minimum terms, ameliorates all the setup and equipment costs over the 24 month , so if they are in the region of £80-£150 , the router , the cost to install the service (if it’s a brand new install) from the network provider and the account set up costs , over the 24 months that could be the equivalent of £3-£6 a month of your bill , paid in one go at the start , plus they have no guarantee that you won’t after a month leave so you pay a premium for that …so if you can find a month to month provider expect to pay all the upfront costs and probably 25% more each month , I doubt you will find any providers doing this any more , really 12 months is the minimum anyone will expect.

I'm informed by a social worker for her council that they are rolling out a new call alert that doesn't need a telephone, "it's all built in" but couldn't provide details beyond that nor confirm that her recently provided alarm box is or isn't the same thing.

Looks like I may need to pay a visit in person to establish way forward.

Yet one individual input is simply to "get real".

You're oit going to get a new contract without tying in for 12 ior 24 months. If the move is as soon as that you'd be best to leave things as they are.

If it's not known when it's happening then a 24 m contract is likely to be ok. BT/EE for example have a life events team for those situations

As mentioned previously, there are providers offering 30-day contracts. The downside is that they generally have significant set-up charges and relatively high monthly costs.

For example if I use the MSE broadband finder and ask for 1-month contracts, I'm offered this:

£75 set-up plus £41/month.

When considering one of these you should compare them to the early-termination fees that would be charged on a longer contract. For example I could sign up with Sky for £23/month and then quit in April when they notify me of the price increase. Eight months with Sky at £23/month is £184, slightly cheaper than the £198 that three months with Rebel would cost.

(Or OP's mum could continue paying £37.50 out-of-contract as they currently do. This might yet be the best option.)

Here's a link to a landline free alert system company and it's not a recommendation just to show you what is out there but you haven't told us who pays for your mum system but this is just for information.

As others mentioned if your mum has to go in a care home the phone/broadband provider may cancel the contract with out penalties but it's not a guarantee.
