Well technically he would be the one to do a BT of that amount but can't see why not as per the answer in the post immediately above BUT is his card also a Tesco card in which case he cannot do a BT ?
( you cannot do BT's where both cards are in the same stable)0 -
Can anyone offer any help?
I have been refused by numerous credit card companies since March this year.
My credit is A1 paid, no adverse what so ever, I have tried not to get too many searches against me as I know it doesnt always look good.
All I want to do is transfer the balance of one credit card over, so it will be in replacement not an addition credit card.
The only reason i can think of for why i am being declined is:
* number of searches
*over committed (however this card would settle another)
Please any advice would be great appreciated
Very similar to yourself...and was turned down for a Barclaycard twice in the last 3 months..(via my Bank Barclays which i have been a member of for 26 years and was TOLD to apply for one by my personal banker)
I apllied myself out of curiosity online a month ago an lo and behold i know have a Barclaycard...
It is a bit hit and miss in my humble opinion.
As i too credit checked myself online and have no red flags anywere..If anything i would of said i was an ideal candidate ,however i did get knocked back twice before getting one..
I have wrote to Barclaycard and the ombudsman asking for an explanantion. I await the response.0 -
Hiya,
hope ur all well
Some help needed if possible..
I have 4,400 debt on a 4,500 credit limit card with bank of scotland apr. 24%
i have a loan of £15,000, that i repay £320 a month.
Bank of scotland contacted me today, telling me they are putting up my apr on credit card to 29%!! ridic- i repay minimum payment of £100 a month on this..
I have an okish credit rating... i missed a payment on cc in feb, march by accident. I think asked my bank to consolidate my debt and of 15,000 and 4400, this was declined.
Not sure how to proceed, any ideas?

i am looking to do a 0% no fee balance transfer from a santander credit card of around 6000. i want the cash in my bank account, although i cant transfer it to my abbey or alliance&leicester account, as they are both santander. i want to clear a balance of my egg credit account, around 3000, but i want the rest of the cash to do some house improvements. can i transfer the 6000 to the egg card, then close the account and get the remaining balance transferred to my bank account when i close the account. is this the only way i can do it, bar opening another account?
please help

Hi,
Long time lurker, first time poster....
I have been "tarting" for years and have always used this site to find the best deals with great success. However, my last attempt to Balance Transfer on 0% with Barclaycard has been a most regrettable experience and I thought it appropriate to feedback my problems to assist my fellow MoneySavers.
I successfully applied for the Barclaycard Platinum in early August - the same card that is still currently the number one 0% BT card on this site. During the application process I advised that I wanted to transfer £4500 to the card and the application was accepted. The card took a week to come through, just before I went away on a 2 week holiday and I phoned to activate the card and transfer the balance. However, I was advised that my credit limit was set at £3000. Knowing I have good credit history, I applied for the increased limit that would cover the transfer that I had stated in my application but was advised that they would not be able to phone me back (cheaper to me whilst abroad) nor email me of the outcome. On my return to the UK, I phoned again, only to be told that my request had NOT yet been processed and that I should wait 48 hours for the outcome. Again, BC did not call me to advise of the decision and I only found out that I was accepted when I called them again. Still, they had accepted so I could finally BT before the end of my existing 0% period - WRONG!! In the interim period (3 weeks) since applying for the card, BC had changed the BT interest rate to 6.8% - the same as their new purchases price.
I very patiently but insistantly explained my anger and irritation at this decision to the customer service person who accepted that it appeared to be a fault of BC due to the delays that they had incurred and that it would be raised and a response advised within 48 hours. I explained that no call had been made to me the previous time that I had made a request and she assured me it would this time - again wrong!!
So I have today called BC again, only to be told that they cannot provide 0% BT to me and I have had to politely and very strongly advise them that I will be cancelling my custom and will never again be using Barclays services. The inevitable downside is that I now have to apply for another card which us unlikely to be accepted and the balance transferred before the end of my current 0% period and will incur the sting of the interest hitting the card
So if you are thinking of using Barclaycard Platinum for tarting and have bothered to read to the bottom of my rant, then do proceed with caution and ensure that the balance is transferred ASAP and without delay that could prohibit your chances of using the offer.
I hope that you have better luck than I...
Regards,
Mouthsack
PS. Thanks to the site and forum members for all of your great advice over the years :T0 -
Hi
Duuno if I should post in this thread or start a new one, but following the advice on this site and doing a quick bit of research, using the MBNA card to do a one-off balance transfer certainly looks like a good way to borrow relatively cheaply. Seems cheaper than the cheapest loans. Assuming I get approved, a transfer for 95% of the credit limit is allowed.
I absolutely hate credit and avoid it like the plague, but unfortunately the car has developed a terminal & uneconomic-to-fix fault so I'm going to have to replace it 2 - 3 years sooner than I had planned. The Mrs is on maternity with number 2, so financially we are at our most exposed right now. So I'm very nervous about proceeding down this route.
Assuming I keep up the payments (minimum = 1% of balance) are there any other potential pitfalls? I'd love to hear from others who have gone down this route. Obviously if you step out of line they instantly whack you on a stratospheric interest rate and its Game Over... I have to avoid that at all costs!

So where are you transferring the BT from ..what's paying for the car ? Are the two related ? Whats the interest on the MBNA card. Obviously you will want to pay off this MBNA card before the higher interest rate kicks in and don't use the card once you have done the BT0 -

I'm referring to the article on this site under loans/plastic-loans
(see the main site nav above under Cards, Loans), in the context of which "balance transfer" means moving a large chunk from a credit card account into your current account. If you read the artcile you'll see what I mean. And it steers you towards the MBNA 'Rate for Life' deal... there is no higher rate to kick in, it stays at 5.9% until you pay the balance off - unless you mess up on the T&Cs.
should I start a new thread, I assumed it would come under 'balance transfers'....?0 -
