The drinks codes were sold out for me at 0550, but I've won a free Gregg's sausage roll from my first scratchcard 🙂

(I do wonder about the normalisation of gambling, though. First spin-the-wheel, now scratchcards )

Sadly, the Octopus Free Hot Drink cannot be regarded as a Human Right…

Its significantly-inferior "replacement", the new Octoplus Scratchcard, seems simply a way for Octopus to save money, by substituting the reliable, once-a-week, free hot drink by the possibility of winning "something" - which you might have to redeem on the same day, or not want or be able to obtain anyway (because there is no relevant shop near you).

Admittedly you had to jump through hoops to get the free hot drink (try repeatedly for between 5 and 20 minutes starting at 06:00 on a Monday morning) if you were that enthusiastic / committed.

Quite probably after a few months, Octopus will retire the scratchcard because so few people will be bothered to try to win Stuff not worth having. Another cost reduction!

We agree here this infiltration of gambling into everyday society is harming a lot of people preying on their weaknesses. The amount of so called celebrities or previous sports personalities promoting gambling is just causing a disease.

Having said that we still did the scratch and won nothing, will try and pick up a code for a free coffee tomorrow.

We always miss a coffee on a Monday what time do they get released?

The free coffee codes are/were listed at 6am on Mondays and 5:10am all the other days of the week, getting easier as the days pass by. on a Monday they would go in minutes.

I got Nero on my scratch card.

I had to pop out on an errand earlier and my route took me past Gregg's, so it was sausage roll time 😋

Those scratch cards are bad for your health! I'll nibble a few grapes and be grateful I wasn't given the opportunity to win anything 😂

I know it’s a bit “tragic” that Octopus’s decision to bork the reward scheme has affected me so much, but it has. The free Nero coffee each week was a big highlight for me. I genuinely loved it, appreciated it and was glad of it. I always hoped they wouldn’t get rid of it, but now they have.

It makes me very sad. I was saving over £5 a week because of it. Overall I’ve apparently saved £250! I will miss my weekly coffee more than perhaps I should, but there we are.

I tried the scratch card yesterday and won…an entry into a weekly prize draw for a holiday to Croatia. I’d prefer a coffee.

Do something today that your future self will thank you for.

Octopus have clearly realised that the reward scheme was benefiting a disproportionally small amount of customers (largely those who could/chose to get up early on a Monday morning). My anecdotal experience is that complaints about that have increased over time, and this is Octopus's way to address the perceived unfairness.

    Snooze you lose!

These sort of rewards are great in the urban sprawl, kak for those of us who live rurally and haven't got a Greggs or a Nero within 20 miles!
