I'm on fire! My hairdresser finally has some appointments available so I've booked in for September. I haven't been able to get in for about 3 years. My long thick curly hair has been ravaged by hormones so I think I'm going to have to have it cut short. It's thin and scraggly and not really growing.

I unblocked Hetty's pipes and gave them a good clean.

I've also hosed down the patio and troweled mud out of the two drains.

I have been valiantly plodding along pulling up shoulder-high nettles individually by the roots to try and avoid re-growth. I’ve been filling a one tonne builders bag and taking it to the tip four times a week - and I have very very nearly finished clearing the garden. I am exhausted but so proud of myself. I do have the excuse of my husband’s illness and subsequent passing last year as the reason for the garden being left to run wild like this, but I have vowed I will never ever let it get like this again. On the plus side I now have time on my hands, and I do actually really enjoy gardening so there’s hope!

My next job is to start emptying the (very old, seen better days) shed in advance of dismantling it and ordering a new one. I have no idea what is in there, but there will doubtless be lots of spiders. Wish me luck!

@C_J - may I suggest wearing a hat or a scarf to cover your head? I like a baseball cap when doing dirty cleaning jobs as then I know nothing is going to drop right in front of me too easily.

@Brie That is a very sensible idea! There is nothing worse than coming back indoors for a cup of tea and suddenly having a spider fall off your bonce.

I am stupidly excited about the prospect of a new shed though :)

I need a new shed! I want my old one pulled down and a new one put up in it's place. I assume I will need a handyman. I will call one next week as I'm now going out in London tomorrow.

Aaaargh, I am not ready for my new shed yet BUT the company I have decided to use (they supplied and built my garden studio a few years ago, and I have been delighted with it) have a sale until the end of August. I could save £500 by ordering now …… I wonder how close to emptying and dismantling the old shed I could get in the next 10 days?. I didn’t want to contact them until the site was cleared and ready (in case there are issues etc), but it’s a chunky and tempting saving.

likely they wouldn't be able to do anything for a while so you'll have more than 10 days. or maybe I shouldn't say that if it means you'll procrastinate!!

Go for it. It's already getting autumnal, dedicate yourself to smashing it in the days and treating yourself in the evenings, and get the shed you want from a company you trust at a decent price, before the horrid weather kicks in for months and months and months. We believe in you 🥂
