Halifax to vanish?

After reading they were moving those in Scotland from Halifax to BoS, it totally expected but maybe not as soon as this.

interesting they should let Halifax customers of Scotland migrate to Bank of Scotland.

It's odd how some people in the comments are saying they will close their accounts if they have to move to Lloyd's when the only difference will be the logo that their banking app shows them. It shows how powerful branding is I suppose.

There isn't much between them really, the apps are identical apart from the logo and colour scheme, and if you look at their websites you'll be hard pressed to find any differences.

I find it odd that anyone would read comments on the GB New site. 😁

Technically, all customers of Halifax are actually customers of BoS even outside Scotland, as they share a banking licence. So transferring a Halifax customer in Scotland to BoS it as simple as changing the logo.
As the article said, if they change Halifax customers in England to Lloyds, they would still technically be BoS customers (even if the logo says Lloyds). If they wanted to fully migrate them to Lloyds, it would require a full legal transfer process.

So from July 2026 Halifax will stop selling services to New Customers e.g current accounts credit cards etc & move everyone over to Lloyds in the Autumn!
I only need 1 Lloyds account so will transfer it or close it down!0 -
I closed my 3 reward accounts with Halifax after the rewards were ended and they paid out the remaining balances last October. So I don't really care what happens to it. It looks tired, neglected and stale as a brand IMO.
I'd rather wait for a reliable source to inform me that this is actually happening.

I think the biggest drive for them doing this is that they could effectively close every Halifax branch!
Most Halifax branches are in towns that also have Lloyds branches, so they could make huge savings by closing all these "duplicates" down.

Does anyone know what happens to FSCS protection? Will their banking licences merge?
Will Halifax and Lloyds balances still get separate £120k coverage, or will it become one combined limit if the banking licences merge? Also, what happens to existing customers who already have accounts with both banks and have more than £120k parked across Halifax and Lloyds combined?
