Halifax to vanish?

in our town we have a Lloyds bank (Moving to old H&M Building) in the summer & Halifax branch less than 2-5 mins away in Buttermarket Shopping centre (Small branch) wonder if they will keep both once Halifax moves over to Lloyds
You can manage accounts at both branches no matter if your with Lloyds or Halifax0 -
Even if they kept the Halifax brand it seems pretty pointless having two when the name above the door makes no difference to what you can do once inside, especially as branches are used so little now.

If it is where I think it is, then if the demise of Halifax was a planned strategy it is surprising they didn't save money by sticking 'Lloyds' signs on the existing Halifax branch rather than moving Lloyds to a new building.
(also interesting the Barclays branch in that place is downsizing rather than closing)

agreed why not move Lloyds to where Halifax is makes more sense!
Also didn’t know Barclays in Ipswich was downsizing but probably due to the rent etc

But at least the NatWest is getting an external refurb in Ipswich.
Problem with a lot of these buildings is the substantial back room accomodation which a regional bank used to require cannot easily be alterated for other uses while the bank is in situ, like the further Post Office/ then Lloyds that is now a bar that can utilise the space. Both the Llyolds & Barclays (moving to former Next) both have a lot of upstairs space which will be more difficult to repurpose.

I think the back office at that Lloyds branch was once a cheque clearing centre - it featured on a TV programme about banking systems IIRC.

I didn’t know that!
Wonder what will happen to people who are in the process of getting mortgage with Halifax!

The Halifax business isn't closing, it's just the name that is going, so anybody in the process of getting a mortgage would probably just end up with a Lloyds mortgage, rather than a Halifax one.
