Halifax to vanish?

No, they haven't confirmed it, but they haven't denied it, either. All they've said is: "We regularly look at the role our brands play in supporting our customers...…there are no changes for our customers today.”
Which doesn't mean there won't be any changes next week/month etc.
If the reports were definitely not true, I'm sure that Lloyds would have said so. As it is, it sounds to me like the only thing they're waiting to confirm is the date it will happen.

Once Halifax confirms they will join Lloyds & cease to exist I will join a bank I not used yet!
Have had HSBC TSB Nationwide Santander NatWest Barclays Co-Op before! No point having 2 Lloyds accounts!
If this move means club Lloyds have **** rewards & get rid of Disney+ might leave all together

Not quite
At the moment someone with both Halifax and Lloyds credit cards who decides to apply for a balance or money transfer finds that it's necessary to be in the app of the same brand. Trying the other will revert to the card of the app brand
It may also not be possible to apply for new savings account across this brand bridge, as I see the same page header logo and maybe only one set of products
Ok, it might not take a long time to tune up that and similar occurrences, but it isn't there yet.

Halifax in reality....just another failed building society. No great loss.

It was a successful building society, then its members voted to take the de-mutualisation bonus, and it became another failed (ex-building society) bank "rescued" by a bigger bank - that was then rescued again by an even bigger bank.

Same outcome. You've just detailed the detours.

That is interesting to know regarding the credit cards, so I guess it would be something they would need to fix.
The saving account application issue would not be a problem as they will be stopping new Halifax applications anyway. It may lead to a weird situation in the short term where if you have a Halifax current account and apply for a savings account it would be a Lloyds savings account. But eventually everything will be Lloyds so it will all work itself out.

It's not just a 'brand' bridge as Halifax is a division of Bank of Scotland plc not Lloyds Bank plc.
Nothing obviously stopping the use of single app but given the leaks have said FSCS protection won't change, this would point to using the Lloyds brand but not moving them anywhere in the short term anyway.

"It was a successful building society, then its members voted to take the de-mutualisation bonus,"
Guilty as charged.😎 We did have a mortgage with them at the time.
