Have a look at this website http://www.telephonesonline.co.uk/

    and http://www.shop.bt.com/productlist.aspx?&NavigationKey=11036&CategorySelectedId=11036&PageMode=1

I bought this one from telephonesonline because it can be used handsfree with a headset. Quite a bulky looking phone but it does the job and the battery does last for ages, although not when my daughter leaves the phone under her pillow for days :(

edited to add, the headset that comes with it is a mobile phone type, I bought an over head type with microphone from Maplin.

Spendless if you have a look at the above links you can search under what features the phones have. I use the BT one above which you can text from. As always then search to see if you can find the phone you want cheaper online via kelkoo or similar.

Our Philips 3-station chordless phone system is in trouble after only two years - the sound on the base unit completely breaks up and the unit can't be repaired as this model is now obsolete. Can anybody please recommend a really reliable system containing 3 (or possibly 4 phones). We don't want another Philips one. Many thanks.
  • Although I do not have any experience of specific models I believe Panasonic cordless phones are highly regarded. I bought an older basic (DECT) model off ebay for my boyfriend and he loves it.
I believe also that the BT branded ones are usually considered poor (varies but generally build and sound quality or common faults).
You could view the customer reviews on Amazon as I’ve usually found them to be a fair reflection. There are also user reviews on BTs online shop.
I hope this is useful in some way.
  • Hmmm not sure that worked (I tried to edit my post with a link to a cordless phone thread). Here it is again: http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/forums/index.cfm?action=showthread&threadid=298326&forumid=21

Thank you for that recommendation. A relative has also recommended Panasonic so we may ultimately go for them. However, for anybody else who finds themselves in the same situation with one faulty satelite station, we have effected a temporary solution by swapping over the phones & reprogramming their locations so that the faulty one is now in the room where it's least likely to be used. We've also discovered that our Philips system was GAP compatible (whatever that means) so that we can buy another manufacturers's model to replace the faulty satellite station and get both systems talking to each other. We haven't tried this yet but thanks to the very helpful assistant in Currys yesterday who told us about this. A pity the employee in the Philips Customer Care department with whom we were in contact couldn't have suggested this to us !!

I have done that but not all functions may work, one advantage was that you could here the conversation on one phone and take part with it too.

I have both brands and I have to say I like the Philips better than the Panasonic.

When choosing any make I would look for good battery life as my first option, no phone works when the battery is flat.

    Some user comments here:

I purchased the previous model to this (8122) and have been very pleased. The only thing that put me off the 8222 was the very shiny black finish, which looked as though it would end up covered in finger marks.

One (very minor) annoyance I have with my Panasonic is that it won't allow you to put just a prefix (e.g. 18185) in the phonebook - in such a way that you dial the prefix from the phonebook then add the rest manually.

Hi, there is a lot of phones out there and I am looking for a set of 4 digital cordless phones for home use. Which ones are good? The names i keep seeing are iDect, Binatone, Panasonic and BT. Not too bothered about looks, but want a decent set at a good price (don't we all!)

    Thanks

I have had a set of 4 Philips ones for years and the reception is excellent.
We have an old house and they work for at least 100 ft through thick walls
Bit of a fiddly interface but they work well.

Not sure what the current models are like but quality and build wise Philips are worth a look
