Is there anything that notifies you of missed calls, for instance, when you've been out?
We used to have one that had a flashing red light for missed calls that caught your eye and don't half miss it.

Everything you'd ever imagine a home phone to do (including what you mention) is done by this model from Panasonic. It's the darnest smart phone we've ever had. All phones are linked to each other so if you miss a call and then check the caller list (you can block people from there too) the 'missed call' icon disappears from all sets.

Great phone and investment. And a pleasure to use unlike all the other tat phones around.

I've linked to the PDF user guide above. It's very detailed and a worthwhile read as it's written by someone with a good grasp of English.

I got a new Panasonic 3 handsets and answer machine last week and its brilliant, far better than the Philips one that broke. I know Panasonic do sets without answer machines as well (the reviews for the Panasonic are really good) We got ours from Tesco.

When you say 'dies', sounds like all you need is a new battery in the handset. They rarely last more than a couple of years as they tend to come with the local Chinese batteries, which are poor quality

If it works OK 'at range' for a couple of minutes unti the battery fades, then there's nothing else wrong with it. You either get a signal or you don't. Get a decent brand rechargeable battery and it will be fine.

  • My cordless handsets are quite old and the keypads are getting a bit iffy. Handsets seem to be glued together so dismantling to clean them might end up being destructive!

Thinking about just replacing them, so looking for any recommendations for a triple or quad pack, message recording, some memory for quick dials, nothing particularly sophisticated, just basic functionality (though some sort of intercom facility would be a nice to have).

Any thoughts, including on which ones to avoid?

I have the Panasonic DECT phones and I find them really good - they do have an intercom facility to transfer calls from one phone to another.

Hello Basil the Fox! Thanks for your tips - I really appreciate it.. Just by chance I just purchased earlier this week the Philips ID937 Duo Digital phone with answering machine which look nice, however...
...the only thing that I am not sure about is it has great reviews here :-

Hey Summer, they look cool! Let me know how you get on with them.

Hi, just feeding back on these phones as promised - well they look very stylish however the sound is so poor  I'm going to have to take them back to John Lewis for a refund

I can't find my receipt but they do take your name and address when you purchase the product so they should have a record. Also being faulty/hopeless product maybe I don't need receipt...

So I'm back to my search for a good deal on twin/triple handsets with answerphone if anyone has seen anything recently please?
    :)
