  • I bought a BT phone to replace Mums old one thinking one was just an improvement on the other.

In Mums current phone the phone numbers are stored and allocated a number. So Mum presses one button then '1' and she knows she is phoning me. Now I knew this new phone I bought had the facility to store more numbers in the memory but that was fine, Mum only uses a few. But got down to reading the leaflet inside and find its press this button for letter, scroll this for that !!! Mum will never cope.

Anybody know a cordless phone I can buy that still has the function I am after.

Live in hope....I would be grateful for any advice

Theirs the BT Freestyle 710, which also has nice large buttons.
You can assign a phonebook entry to each of the keypad buttons for speed dialling, apart from one Button which has the BT Freestyle Helpline number already pre-stored.

Available here : http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5523180.htm and at other stockists.

    Instructions here: http://www.shop.bt.com/content/uni2/documentation/5707/qsg.pdf
  • Billsavings, thats just the ticket.

Thank you very much for finding that for me and Mum !

    Another Christmas present sorted.

Can anyone recommend a DECT cordless phone with a base station that will mount flat to the wall?

I currently have a regular answerphone which I would like to replace with a roving handset.

I have seen a nice one here, but it's hardly MSE friendly.

    Hi
I am looking for a dect cordless phone, ideally single handset and without answerphone). Looking for a good price but more importantly am looking for one with a good reccomendation, am really looking for one with good sound quality and volume, the one we have at the minute works well but the sound from the receiver is very quiet (and at times breaks up) making it very difficult to hear the caller (now dont get me wrong this has its advantages but am fed up now with mrs 1jim moaning about it!) so sound quality is the most important feature.

    Thanks
    Jim

Put a 'wanted' post on your local Freecycle - I've give away 6 DECTs recently (3 x twins, 1 x triple, 1 x quad and one x single). You may be pleasantly surprised.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Have a look at

    http://www.telephonesonline.co.uk/

They sell older models, or ex display / refurb as well as new

I have had two from them without any problems at all [both second hand, but you would never know]

I have used the above website a couple of times, as have other users of MSE, and its great service. They also sell on Ebay where you can get a bargain but don't forget to add on the £6 odd postage.

I noticed a few phones on offer in my local Tesco yesterday, have a look online here..
