Best Mastercard Credit Card for overseas use

Yes I’d forgotten about that about Virgin Money.
Probably either RBS or Chase then.

Yes that’s one reason. Other reason is that the local Costco only accepts Mastercard credit cards and I do occasionally buy stuff there as visiting family.

Amex is generally poor for FX rates.

As I explained, it’s a Mastercard credit card I’m looking for.

I know Costco US only accepts Visa, where's the MC only location?

Correct. It is indeed Canada.

In Armageddon what will be worth having is something valuable to trade, not cash which is backed by a bank that no longer exists - precious metals perhaps but guns, ammo, food, clean water etc so invest in that!

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

It wasn't Armageddon but I was in Barcelona for last year's Iberian blackout. Card payments were mostly useless and the EPOS systems were all offline.
Once I realised what was going on my first positive act was to find a working cash machine and withdraw €100. I paid some overseas transaction fees but they weren't important under the circumstances. I wanted to be able to buy food for that night and a taxi to the airport (we were due to return home the following day).
That afternoon the few shops that were open were only taking cash. We could buy bread, cheese and chocolate so we were sorted for that evening and the following morning.
So yes, there are circumstances short of "the end of the world" where cash is a useful backup to card payments.
(As it happened the power came back before midnight and I could pay for our taxi electronically. I've still got some of those Euros in my travel money wallet now.)
Amex is generally poor for FX rates.
Similarly to my overseas transaction fees for my ATM cash, if you're carrying it as a backup to use when the other networks are offline it doesn't really matter how poor the Amex FX fees are. You'll only be using it when you don't have a better option.

Reliant on the ATM to have power - and if you have power places can take card. Depending also on where you are, shops may well not process orders particularly big ones as they can't do the order/take payment/sort out cash etc without the scanners
