I agree with that.
I've seen TVs too big for the room and sitting far too close, I expect some of it is keeping is up with the Joneses.

nothing worse than tvs in the bedroom. Bedrooms are for 2 purposes, and not watching telly

I used to have a large mirror on the wall.
Now I have a TV there.
It lives in the same room as my expensive hi-fi system.

Entirely your choice and it's up to you whether you find that satisfactory.

Ironically McDonalds however is likely to be the more consistent (standard) per Marco Pierre White (3 Michelin Stars) who said McDonalds was brilliant and one of the best value restaurants.

When it comes to TVs, I'm on team "I don't get it".
No man is worth crawling on this earth.

He did say that nearly 20 years ago, McD isn't the value it once was. I have given it up when it moved to "freshly prepared" using a now cold burger and then wacking everything together.
Going back on topic the burgers look nothing like they do on TV, larger or small screen.Let's Be Careful Out There1 -
I'm a neutral in this discussion as I've never owned a colour TV.. I blame Margaret Thatcher as when my little B&W one went pop mortgage rates were a bit horrendous so I didn't get a new one. As time went on I found I didn't miss it, and as I have a bit of a lazy streak thought that the ability to mindlessly slump on the sofa was a bit dangerous. I still slump and snooze on the sofa but best not to have encouragement. ;-)
So my observations are not based on number of inches - don't have a clue - but some people do seem to have models out of scale with their surroundings and dominating the room. Sometimes on when there's no one watching and acts as a flickering distraction.
I'm trying to persuade someone to move in with me so I may well have to do some research on the matter! I'd still go down the pub when my team was playing away and being shown on some obscure subscription channel as the pub can justify the cost. When people in debt do their SOAs on this forum it's a bit worrying how much some spend on subscriptions so I'd rather spend my money on a pint of ale and company..

When I last bought a TV for our lounge/living room, I researched about what the optimum size vs viewing distance was. There seems to be a standard formula, but when applying it the suggested screen size seemed too big for the room, The viewing distance is a bit less than 3 M ( so about 9 feet) - the recommendations were for 60inch to 85 inch !
I think though the recommendations are based on how big to go, if you wanted the best most immersive viewing experience, as opposed to the aesthetics of having an overwhelmingly large screen in a modest room.
In the end got a 49 inch one, and it has been a good compromise between a decent sized screen to watch, and it not dominating the room- especially as it is in a corner.

Who really cares what size of telly you've got or where and when you watch it. Big or small its entirely up to you.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers4
