Size of televisions

As the fad for fitting them high on the wall has passed, there's now a category of furniture called a lowboard. It's basically a fancy TV stand that looks like a low sideboard.
Alternatively an entertainment wall if you want to splash out.
As for TV size, it's hilarious how some people have such big TVs that you can't see them properly or they block off a lot of the room.

Who here is not a fan of USB turntables and multiple speakers?
A cheap smart speaker and Amazon Music will do the same job surely?

You can go up a rung on the social ladder by getting rid of the TV. When plasma TVs came out, a neighbour bought one that blocked out most of the light from his front room window, whenever I visited, he turned it on… what an idiot, I gave up visiting as all he seemed to want from the TV was "bragging rights" as to who had the largest TV.

Different strokes for different folks. Remember getting my 32" widescreen CRT TV and people saying why did I need such a big screen.
A lot will depend on your setup, distance from the screen and a range of other factors. I actually dont like that big a screen for watching regular TV and so wouldnt go bigger than our 50" however we have a 120" projector screen that drops down in front of the TV (stopping just short of the turntable) for watching movies

I much prefer listening to the Home Service on the wireless.

No you don't.
You can get something like this which doesn't take up an obscene amount of room, as most TVs have VESA mounts, and then the TV Itself becomes the widest part:

Thank you for this. I didn’t know these existed, and one might be useful if I want to rearrange my room.

Thanks for the comment about the "lowboard".
We are actually in the process of purchasing new TV stand and have an option for an "Entertainment" unit which will house DVD, Amplifier, Turntable and includes a drawer for CDs/DVDs, then the TV stands on top. This is a height of 670 mm.
An alternative option is to get a shorter version that omits the CD/DVD drawer so a height of 480 mm.
We quite like the version with the CD/DVD drawer included but wonder whether that 670 mm is too high for the TV to stand on.
We have a 43" TV and that is the largest we can have as it exactly fits the width of the alcove.

Why would you need to use a plank? Put another stand on it, doesn't cost the earth.
