Sky BB changed from copper wire to Fibre - it's actually a bit slowere

Hello

We had the old copper line, IIRC the BB pack was something like

Superfast 35 - speeds according to Sky site were 36.4 daily

Since the change over a week ago its 151 and the "daily average is 74.2" according to their site.

The phone works ok, the laptop is no faster, and its a relatively new laptop.

The tv freezes more often, especially when watching YouTube (now does this daily ie when watching more than a couple of hours of YT, whereas before, about once a week, if that), etc.—the TV is relatively new, a Sony flagship 75-inch tv.

Anyone else noted this?

I've checked everything

Sky site states "it takes up to two weeks for Sky BB to settel,"

Did you get a new router when you upgraded to full fibre?

Have you done your own speed check?

Sort of similar, I've just moved from 45Mbps Cu to 500Mbps FTTP w/BT.

Newish smart tv shows (on it's network settings screen) 120Mbps when the tv is hard-wired to the router and can be a bit stuttery when streaming UHD. Wi-fi speed (when unplugged from router) shows > 250Mbps and no stuttering.

Hardwired speed test from router with a laptop shows 480Mbps.

No real idea why (dodgy router? iffy cable (I've tried 2), crappy network card in the TV?

Trying to forget about it because it's working fine but the setup offends my inner nerd.

Often the constraint with a laptop is the wifi connection to the router and not the onwards connection to the internet. If you didnt get a new router as part of the upgrade then it wouldnt be a great surprise that the laptop sees no difference. We recently updated our routers/mesh nodes, made no changes to the internet connection but things are much faster because the new routers uses the 6ghz frequency and are more powerful so at the edges of our property speeds have more than doubled.

I've always found smart TVs to be terrible, never had Sony but have had LG, Samsung and others and all of them their "smarts" were vastly more unreliable than even a several years old Firestick or AppleTV. Thats on day 1 and they only go downhill from there.

No. We have a black, oblong one and we were sent a small wire which the sky connected to something.

One of our shildren who changed to a much faster versions of 'full fibre' has the same box/router.

I have and done it again, but I'm not sure what the 151 figure Sky site presents relates to.

So I just checked again - cant makes heads or tails out of it

download Mbps112.09 Upload Mbps27.87 - Is that a lot faster than copper wire?

Sky said the fibre would be about 3 times faster.

It would be interesting to hear from others changing over.

Now you mention the "500" fibre. At our son's who changed from copper to the 500 a few weeks ago.

There too, the tv seems to jam up a litttle bit more than usal ie before the change. We often bring the

grandkids back from school as our son works from home and his wife works in a bank and does not get back home until about 4/4-30 - our son, like many young people know a lot re BB etc and cables. He said he has not noted the stutter on the tv but he rarely watches it or YouTube for that matter.

As i sai, the phones eem no different, the laptop, a few percent slower imo - but the tv, stutters almost every day

Could this just be a gimmick (a change to "faster" fibre from copper wire) and Sky are just getting everyone to change to fibre as they/all are dowing awsy with copper wires?

So, interesting to hear from Sky customers as well as those just changing from copper to fibre with other providers.

Sky say on their 150 mbs their estimate is 151 mbs.

    I actually get 145 mbs

I'm not complaining about such a small difference, but if I were getting as low as you I would be telling them.

    Thanks.

To be clear, I am not "complaining" re the current 151 etc but its supposed to be around 3 times faster but appears to be slower than the previous copper wire BB with Sky. That is my concern/complaint.
